Great for appealing lighting in small rooms with low ceilings
Honestly you can't beat these if you need a 3-inch setup. The baffled version is less appealing visually. Even if you don't tend to swivel the light (we aren't) the gimbal look is a bit better, plus you always have the option. Size is incredible. Small and compact, easy to mount with a drywall adjustable hole saw (used the one made by Milwaukee). Clamps that hold it to the hidden side of the ceiling sheetrock are great. Our guest room actually had two layers of sheetrock and the camps still accommodated without modification. Very well designed in that sense. Wired up four in a small guest room and threw them on a dimmer. If you want LED it's another story as you'll need to find and swap the bulbs (easy to do even after install), but some may prefer to buy the LED units that are ready to go. We tend to like the soft light of halogen and the room is rarely used so energy consumption is not a concern. As others mentioned they get hot, real hot. I installed tenmat covers in the attic and sealed with spray foam. Layered on some extra insulation perpendicular to the cavities above in hopes of preventing/limiting the chimney effect in winter.

Tricky for remodel installs.
Looks good, throws a lot of light for small aperture. BUT, not easily installed in remodel application. Maneuvering fixture thru 3 1/8” hole in drywall takes a great deal of finesse and patience. And if you’re installing more than one in series there’s only one way to do it. Here’s how: there are 3 knockouts on the tiny junction box. For a remodel in existing drywall; You must go in AND out thru the same knockout (the top one) for all fixtures except the first and last. You’ll never get the fixture thru the opening w/Romex entering the side openings. Just too tight. And you don’t want to install/uninstall trying to figure things out as each trip thru the opening works your drywall pretty good.

love these
These lights are very easy to install and look great. I've installed about a dozen in two separate rooms on dimmers. The clips are very easy to use and if need be are easy to uninstall to reposition. The gimble is limited but not a deal breaker for me as I prefer the down light anyways. I used a 3.125 hole saw and the fit is clean and nearly perfect. The only down side is the halogens are very hot and running 9 in one room looks awesome, but it will generate some noticeable heat. I plan on swithing them out with dimmable LEDs. For the price and ease of install, I give these 5 stars easily. I have blown in installation so I had to use 10 inch duct work to maintain my 3 inch safety clearance. I cut the duct work into 1 foot sections and anchored them around the light vertically to protect the installation from touching the light. Works like a champ.

Changed them to LED's
Great value for the cans. I tossed the hot bulbs it came with for some LED's. Turns out to be cheaper than the Lithonia LED package. These can's can be a pain in the butt to keep in the ceiling with those black clips. If you are doing the wiring with MC/Armored cable, make sure to use the appropriate connectors in the right knockout. If you plan it wrong, you might mess up your hole when you go to shove it in the ceiling. ALSO make sure there is NO insulation surrounding or covering this light. Read all instructions. Don't be the cause of a fire.

These look great. Small size and have a nice little bit of recess too them. Puts out great light but because they are recessed, you avoid some glare. Dimmable as well. If you know how to wire a light or a switch, these are a snap to put in.

I would give them a five but some came without light bulbs. We replaced all the bulbs with LEDs so it didn’t really matter to us.

good instructions and very simple to install
Very well made, good instructions and very simple to install. This is my second order of Lithonia brand recessed lights and I will continue to buy this brand in the future. It's hard to find good quality like this for a good price these days.
