The Yak Pack: Sight Word Stories: Book 2: Comic Books to Practice Reading Dolch Sight Words (21-40) (The Yak Pack Comics Complete Series)

This series is great for struggling readers!
First, and foremost, my son didn't want to stop reading these! He's 6 and has struggled with reading from the get-go. He usually tires quickly when practicing reading. I kept asking if he was ready for a break, but he has wanted to read about 5 stories at a time. He's plowed through Sight Words Book 1; Phonics Book 1; and Sight Words Book 2. He also revisited them on his own - rereading the stories to himself! We are starting Phonics Book 2 next, and I'm here on Amazon to order the rest in the series! Some things I love:The stories are actually entertaining (my son laughs out loud at most of them) compared to the inane stories that most beginning reader books have. The illustrations are great and add to the story line. I actually like that they are in b&w, too, so they don't distract more from the words. The progressive system of adding/practicing words & phonics boosts confidence and quickly builds skills. The stories are just the right length. My son loves the Certificates in the back of the book.I love the comprehensive lists of sight words at the end.The picture clues for words mixed in with the sight words helps little ones focus on those sight words without the stress of also sounding out words - they can focus on one skill at a time.If you follow the suggested order, the kids are already familiar with the sight words in Phonics Book 1, so, again, they can focus solely on sounding out the unfamiliar words (& not trying to sound out sight words that can't be sounded out).FYI: The Sight Word books have the picture clues in the sentences (shown in the photo), but the Phonics Books do not.The only room for improvement is that both the Sight Word books have a lot of stuck together pages (almost every other one). Fortunately, it is just a little bit and all close to the spine, so none of the spots have interfered with the drawings or words; just a minor annoyance having to peel apart so many pages and then having slightly torn pages. Definitely not worth taking stars away though.
