This sheath is designed specifically and exactly for the Gransfors Bruks (or Bruk) Small Forest Axe Axe. It is made out of raw cowhide, stained, and later treated with Neatsfoot oil. The sheath is handmade in Spokane, Washington. The construction of the sheath starts with three pieces of leather: the main body of the sheath, the securing strap and the welt. The main body is folded over a welt that is inserted between the two folded halfs which prevents the blade of the inserted axe from cutting the stitch that is placed to hold the sheath together. The sheath is then hand stitched and rivets are placed at the corners to reinforce the body. The axe head blade, when placed in the sheath, is prevented from touching the rivets because of the welt. The retention strap is then secured with a rivet and a snap is added for easy on/off action. This sheath is built to last, and quality hand made in the USA (Spokane, Washington). Finish to the edges of the leather is applied for aesthetic appeal. Watch how this sheath is made on YouTube HERE: http://youtu.be/reL6CQi18xk?list=UUdKhV7sJiUTzlk7d6nKm-cQ

The quality you'd expect for a Gransfors Bruk axe sheath!
This is the best single-bit axe sheath available. It is so well made as to make one believe it came through a time machine from the past, back when people took pride in their craftsmanship and it wasn't all about corporate mergers, mass-production, and disposable junk of marginal quality. Watch the video on YouTube to see the painstaking amount of detailed work that went into making these. It's a shame that Gransfors Bruk can't provide an axe sheath of quality equal to their axes. Thank goodness for YAE's after-market products. My axe is now complete!

Flawed but beautiful
I love the color of this and how it matches my leather neck guard but I have to say you must take it off if you are going to hammer anything with the back of the axe. I was pounding steaks into the ground and the blade cut right through the front stitching and I had to re-sew it. There was really no reason for this to happen other than the swing and the sharp blade (the strap in no way covers the back flat of the axe). I eventually swapped back to the default sheath as it has grommets to prevent this and this one has since been put away. I don't like exposing the blade to pound steaks so this ended up being a no go for me.

Perfecto
Lost the sheath cover in my dads back yard and its assumed to have been ran over by his lawn mower. Finally got this even though the price is a little steep but it is nice quality leather with a firm feeling button.

Smells Like Heaven
High quality thick leather. This is about the best axe sheath you can buy hands down. The sheath that came with my small forest axe developed a cut in it where the axe blade rubs when putting sheath on. This one fits straight on there and holds tight. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately the strap is way too thin
its nice but the strap is WAY too thin.. much thinner than the original sheath the axe comes with. why? smh.. who knows how long that will hold strong for
