Both satisfying and efficient
This is my first Milwaukee tool, and one of the first power tools i’ve bought new. Coming from eBay 12v lithium Makita brushed drills/drivers, of course the jump from brushed to brushless is impressive. Despite loving the fine, instant and precise trigger actuation of my Makita tools, this definitely competes and maybe isn’t exactly as slick, but in use I’ve never noticed a difference. In terms of everyday usability, it’s surprisingly heavier which is the sole reason I went 12v for both lineups but in use I absolutely don’t mind the extra weight. It’s never felt cumbersome or uncomfortable. Now for the elephant in the room, the hydraulic impact mechanism. Not only is it substantially quieter which I love and is honestly the main reason I bought it, but the impacts are both more precise and repeatable between screws. It feels like my old Makita just “goes ham” and makes a racket, this M12 Surge quietly cranks out precise repeatable and powerful blows. It feels more smooth premium and controlled. My favorite features are, in order: the quietness of impacts, selectable speed, one handed bit chuck, and precision/premium feel of using it day to day. I’m really happy Milwaukee is still giving their m12 line some love as not everyone needs the power and increased weight and bulk of 18/20v lineups. Overall this is my new go to for driving screws and such into anything as it’s honestly just satisfying and easy to use. The price is actually pretty fair considering I’m usually a value shopper and don’t buy new. I’m impressed and hope to get a long life out of it. I feel and see no reason why it wouldn’t last, and if it somehow doesn’t I like this enough I’d consider purchasing another if that day comes.

Outrageously smooth
Ok, having been a dewalt 20v user many, many years, these m12 tools are my foray into Milwaukee battery tools. This impact driver, Fuel Surge model (hydraulic) has got to be the smoothest impact driver I've ever heard or used. Absolutely outstanding and worth every penny. Great for literally every household use I can think of. The 20v tools now are just a standby for heavier-duty jobs.

The best 1/4" impact driver on the market!
I have two of these now. I've been using the other one for over a year without an issue and it is absolutely a beast for its size. The torque control on it is very good if you're doing something delicate the variable speed is super sensitive and easy to go slow if you need to but it also has the power to drive in even the toughest lag bolts. It's super compact and feels good in your hand even if it is a bit heavy. It's quiet compared to my other impact drivers and the battery life is decent with the small 2.0 or 3.0 ah batteries. If you put one of the bigger 5.0 or I believe they even have a 6.0 M12 battery now you'll be running all day without worrying about power.$100 for this tool is a steal!

Very quiet. On the low setting it sill not strip out screws when putting furniture together.

Great tool needs more torque though
Awesome tool I’d give it 5 stars but was just a wee bit disappointed. Everything’s fine except it doesn’t have the torque I need. I work in an industrial environment and sadly this didn’t have enough umph but still a great tool.

Light and compact!
Milwaukee surge impact is really one of the nicest impact to carry, it doesn’t hit as hard as a normal impact, thus is safer to cabinet faces (or anything automotive), when compared to my full size impact this is able to do 90% of my work and my big impact is used for my bigger jobs.Don’t get me wrong looking at the numbers. It doesn’t make sense to buy something that doesn’t have as much “foot pounds” when compared to the other M12 impact, but trust me when I say, you have to try it out to justify the purchase, it runs a little different and takes a little bit of adjusting, but it is so much nicer.
