It works well with Royal Alpha 1100ML
I have a Royal Alpha 1100ML. The cord has a serial port and a USB. The cash register doesn't have a USB, it has a serial port. I'm assuming and working on the details about hooking this to my computer using the USB part of the cord to more easily program the cash register. But that is not necessary to use it on the cash register.

I purchased this scanner for the Royal 1000ML cash register that I have had to about a year. The cash register is great but the scanner -- not so sure. The instructions in the user manual do not correspond with the way the cash register works. It just never worked for me so I called Royal customer service to help me through the process. The person I spoke to took me through the same process I had done and finally told me to return the product as it was faulty and purchase a new one.Information about which scanner to use for the Royal 1000ML scanner is confusing. The cash register manual talks about the PS700 scanner but other documentation, including the Royale website indicates the that PS700-LSR is the one to use for the Royal 1000ML. Wish you'd just bundle the right scanner with the cash register.

Bought this for the owner of a small store, ...
Bought this for the owner of a small store, near me. He needed a scanner with the 9 pin connector. The data says it will work on two models. Called Royal an they stated it will work on any of their cash registers with the 9 pin connector. Store owner did not read the activating instructions and could not get it to work. I read the three line activating instructions-scanned the bar code on the instructions-and the scanner immediately starting working. Scanner works as advertised...

There are better options
Had to replace two from the get go. The first scanner did not register to my royal pos. Then the second only scan about 60% of the time. Third one is working but take a few shakes to read most barcodes

Better than the other reviews make it seem.
I never review products, but felt I had to since this didn't have good reviews. Item came exactly as described and was simple to hook up to a cash register I previously owned. I hooked it up via the serial port with the long cord (also has a 6" cord for stationary use). Very simple to program via the register. Highly recommended.

what good is a barcode scanner without a database to support it?
Royal says that the register I purchased supports this scanner... ONLY. What does NOT warned about is that the register requires the owner to manually build a database of items for the scanner to work correctly! AND that the register does not have an easy to use built in keyboard to enter data in to itself, and that the register will not recognize ANY OTHER KEYBOARD to enter data. It's bad enough trying to enter receipt headers and footers.
