Good quality - my pups just aren't catching on
I have tried several locations for these bells and I can't seem to get my dogs to use them. I figured my older (7yr) dog would have issues with change so late in the game but I thought my 4mo old puppy would pick it up quickly as she picks almost everything up quickly. She seems to be afraid of the bells and they are just a tad too short (even hanging from a low doorknob). She is only 4.5lbs and can still reach it with her paws so I had hope, but it seems at this point I may just have to figure out another way for them to tell me (currently just every time they go sit by the door - the one with the bells on it)I will update my review if they finally get the hang of it but for now I will give 4 stars. 5 for quality and appearance. 3 for "ease of use" and length.

my dog learned to use it quickly
I got this I think about 3 weeks ago. I bought it because I got a new dog and was having a hard time telling when she needed to go out or if she was just snooping around. I hung it on the door and every time I put the dogs out I would pull it forward and gently touch it on her nose and say "touch it". When I was lazy like in the middle of the night I would just ring it myself then open the door. I started touching it on her nose a little harder so it would ring. After I think about a week she rang it a couple of times, those first couple I am not sure if it was an accident or not. After about 2 weeks she was using it when she wanted out. Now she is so good at it she used it the other night to trick me into going and opening the door so she could steal my spot on the couch. Now I am going to make sure I put her out every time she rings it so she won't try to trick me.I think some dogs it may take a bit longer to learn how to use. I think if my other dog needed it he would have taken longer. But my new dog is pretty sharp, a shepherd mix (potcake).

Perfect for small dogs to reach any door!
If you are thinking of teaching your dog (or new puppy) to ring a bell to go outside, these are a must have. These easily hang from any door and are reachable by any size dog - our puppies were only 3 lbs when we started training them (now 10 lbs), and they were able to nose / paw at them to signal that they wanted to go outside. In fact, they like using it to signal the water bowl is empty, that they are hungry, that there is a bird outside that they want to bark at - it is a pretty neat communication tool! You can look it up on youtube as to how to teach a dog to ring a bell - it just takes some patience. You hold the bells in front of them, tell them bell, and wait for them to bonk it, whatever method they prefer. The first bonk is the hardest - once they do it, you give them a treat, and then they will definitely repeat it. You keep treating them, and eventually they understand "bell" = ringing the bell = yummy treats. Then step 2 is hanging it on the door, and before you let them go out to potty, you tell them "bell" - make them ring the bell to go outside, and that is their treat. Once they become more potty trained, they will ring the bell proactively to go out!

wanted to use them but didn't end up using them
my dog didn't seem to get it but then one day she suddenly rang them - we are still not sure to this day if she actually was trying to use them or not. however we decided not to use them because we thought it would be better to keep her on a schedule and be sure about the times she needed to go out rather than have her controlling the schedule. we were worried about what would happen if she rang them when we were not home for example. so we hung them on another door as decoration. they are very cute and well made.

Great Idea!!! Allows dogs to communicate easily.
I love this product! My dog used to sit by the door and wait patiently for someone to see her and let her out. No barking… no whining... no scratching… she’d just sit and wait. I recently got a new puppy and decided to use this to avoid my previous problem. My puppy picked up on the idea within a few days, and she now rings the bells whenever she wants to go out. Unfortunately, she also rings when she wants to go out to play, but it’s easy to tell when she’s serious and when she’s “tricking” us based on timing or her body language. Some reviewers mentioned that the bells weren't loud enough, but I don't have that problem. I can hear the bells from everywhere in my house. My puppy usually rings them lightly at first, but if we don't let her out immediately, she rings them again, louder and longer. The only downside is that the bells ring whenever the door is opened, which is inconvenient late at night or early in the morning when people are sleeping. I might hang the bells on a hook next to the door to avoid that happening.

Great Product!
These are so much cuter than their picture! I hemmed and hawed a lot about getting bells for bell training. I've never had a bell-trained dog before, but I work at a zoo, and when you know a lot of zookeepers they have a lot of great advice for training animals. My dog was terrified of going through doors (in, out, didn't matter, did not want to cross any thresholds, even inside doors) so I thought there would be no way to train with bells. In 3 months she has over come her fear of doors, her fear of the sound of the bells, and we are well on our way to being fully bell-trained. She now sits in front of the door and lifts her paw like "shake" so I tap the bells to her foot and she's not afraid anymore. I think we are very close to her doing it on her own, which will be a welcome relief for my husband and I to not have to guess anymore when she wants 'out'! I realize that I could really use any bells, but I think it's important, at least for my dog, to have something that is designated as 'hers' since she has had several fears to overcome.

The bells....the bells :)
These bells are amazing. I have a maltese puppy and I was getting a bit worried about how will she be able to let us know she wants to go outside. Potty training is ok when they are small and you take them out on a regular basis, but there comes a time when you don't want to be watching them for clues as to when they need to go, they need to let you know, especially as the weather is now a bit chilly, we don't want the outside door open all day. I was convinced by the reviews that they worked well enough to give them a go.I used small treats to teach her 'open', meaning if she rings them the door would open. At first I had to help her nudge the bells with her nose. I had to put the treat behind the bells to encourage her to make them ring. After 10 mins she had got it. We kept repeating the word open before we opened the door. Now she runs up to them and rings them loudly if we are in the other room, she also rings them and sits by the hall door if wants to go and get new toys etc. These are a godsend! I am going to get more for the new house as the doors are further apart.

Worth the training
I'm puppy training and heard about these via a telly programme, my boyfriend was doubtful. The bells are actually quite large so are loud enough to hear in another room. I used a mini stick on picture hook on our back door, everytime puppy looked like he wanted to go out I got him to paw the bells and as I opened the door I praised him, about a hour after his mini training session I settled down in front of the telly, in the background I heard some bells! Dashed to the door and there is puppy looking at the door.... So proud and now I don't have to have the back door open all the time.. Make sure you get puppy to 'paw' the bells and not nudge with his nose, as the sound needs to be loud enough to hear in another room.

Life saver!!
These bells have worked amazing for me and my mini schnauzer puppy. We were losing hope at getting him house trained - he would happily do his business when we took him outside but he wasn't telling us when he needed to go out and having accidents in the house. We hung these on our back door and within a day he was ringing the bells when he needed to go out. Since that day we have not had an accident in the house for two months and counting! The only thing is, he now knows that if he rings the bells he gets to go in the garden and dig in the plant pots!

24hrs and 100% success!
These are fabulous!! Our 10mth old cockapoo took to these within 24hrs of me taping his foot on them to show him every time I let him out. He chose to switch that to his nose but he rings them EVERY time without fail still 5mths on! We actually brought another set for my parents house too.The only downside is that Bertie now rings them if his dinner is late/he wants to go out on the trampoline/wants a treat 😂😂 #servicebell

Best Purchase Ever!!!
One of the best things we have ever bought. We live in a flat and therefore have only one door and could not see when our puppy needed to go out. We put it on the handle of the living room door and he very quickly got the hang of using the bells when he wanted out. We have taken it when we have stayed away from home. It stopped the number of accidents immediately and I would recommend it to anyone toilet training a dog.
