It’s worth the time.
I am not a fan of Nicholas Cage or Oliver Stone so I wasn’t expecting all that much. Boy, was I surprised. This is a very real, very hard, story of a few real people and their 9/11 experiences. What was truly a pleasant surprise was just how focused Oliver Stone was on the human interest aspects completely avoiding sensationalism and gratuitous images of death and destruction. Sure, you can’t tell the story without dark elements but in this day of CGI overkill it was a breath of fresh air to instead focus on the people. It’s not an easy film to watch but it is worth it in the end.

Can Only Watch This Occasionally
I can only watch this occasionally. My SO won’t. His brother is sick from working down there. He survived the collapses, his coworker did not. He continued to help down there even after surviving the collapses. He’s a hero, as so many others are and were.My dad was sick from being down there too, but mostly in another way. A tender heart, his was ripped wide open especially because he had a way of seeing the best in humans even in spite of some of the things they’d do to each other. Oh, he was no push over, but he was tender. His team were called in after it happened. They were initially working in another part of the city directly across from the Towers when they saw it.I don’t know what else to say except that this movie, well, it helps me with healing.

The Truth told the right way.
Great actors to pull off the sense of New York culture at this time in our nation's history. It doesn't get any better than this. Reality finds a home in the life of a people who refuse to be overcome by evil.

World Trade Center ... and ... Oliver Stone?
When I first heard that Oliver Stone was the director of another "too soon" World Trade Center movie, I thought, "Oh no!" Started doubting if I even really wanted to see it.Not that it is too soon. Clearly, judging from the current state of American politics, it isn't. Maybe "overdue" is more like it. How soon so many of us do forget. I think Americans - maybe the World - in this day & age NEED a reminder. Sad, but true. We seem to forget so very easily. Just go on with our lives. All the while, the enemy is focused. So, forget the "too soon" angle. That was not a concern for me.But, Oliver Stone???? Hey, no doubt, the man knows how to make a movie. Clearly, he is a great filmmaker. That wasn't a concern, either. I was very worried about the angle ... Americans are the bad guys, the Bush Administration imploded the buildings, there are NO terrorists. So, during the drive to Asheville yesterday, that's what I addressed to my 3 eldest daughters who accompanied me to the theater. Inside, I was feeling like perhaps we should have stayed home.Man was I mistaken. I will not offer a review here. Just see it!It was not at all what I expected. Forget the angles, even the film making was way different than I anticipated. I anticipated epic shots of buildings crumbling; vast panoramas depicting planes in flight; masses of people fleeing in terror. You know, recreations of all we had seen on the news - live in many cases - on that dreadful day 5 years ago. A HUGE movie. It wasn't. It was small. The only "big" pictures were on televisions in the background being watched by family members & co-workers. The movie tells small stories within the big one. You only experience what the characters were able to experience.Small does not mean not powerful. And the angles were of love ... of honor ... of heroism.Wimp that I am, I cried throughout the ENTIRE movie. No exaggeration! My eyes were pools of tears for however long that movie ran. Tears trickled down my cheeks at regular intervals. It was all I could do to keep from breaking down bawling at points. There was not a sound in the theater, except for sniffles. Those were my countrymen; that is my homeland; I grew up on those streets ... I kept thinking that, over and over. I don't know what any one else was feeling or thinking, but I'd wager it wasn't much different. In the end, I was certain of one thing ... Oliver Stone gets it. Kudus to him. A masterpiece!NEVER Forget, friends!

5 Stars / Familair themes in an intense true drama
I would rate this 95% accurate (according to thecommentary) dramatization of the rescue of two PAPDpolice officers with 5 stars. This movie never boredme and told a story that I personally was not familiarwith.A number of people - probably none who will read this -have said it is "too soon" or "too depressing" to tellthis story. While I understand those emotions, on viewingthis film, I see it as a straightforward telling of reallife events against two popular themes in movies. The first is the theme of the importance of family, love, teamwork, duty, faith, comradely, and people helping otherpeople because it is the right thing to do. This may soundcorny but I do not mean it to.The second is the theme of battling to rescue fallen comradesagainst real danger and time constraints. This theme iscertainly one seen before in many war movies. And in my mind, this movie (along with "United 93") is a war movie, differentonly in that we are not used to thinking of civilians onthe main land United Stated being targets of war. Many other classic war films depict battles in which the humantoll exceeded that of 9/11. (I am not trying to minimize 9/11,but just to put this film in the context of other war films.)That said, this film is emotionally intense (the commentarytracks even more so), so people who feel they would be upsetby this probably should stay away.

Unvergessen
