Maiden, Mother, Crone: The Myth & Reality of the Triple Goddess

Self-help, not scholarship
The reviews I read led me to hope for a scholarly bit of comparative mythology citing original sources. Instead, there is a little bit of mediocre scholarly work that doesn't amount to much more than a list of various figures that almost fit the paradigm and it is well-buried with wishy-washy, "We should all access the Goddess" talk. I'm a staunch feminist and I would be unsurprised if we were ever able to concretely determine that pre-historic cultures frequently had Goddess-oriented beliefs, but this book is so cheesy and self-helpy that I would not recommend it...unless you are looking for a sweet, repetitive, mushy-minded pep talk about discovering the Goddess within, in which case, carry on.

Found it difficult to read
I really enjoyed DJ Conway's "Moon Magick" book and thought that this one would be just as fulfilling. The author didn't seem to do a lot of research and if she did it didn't seem to come through in her writing. I found that a lot of the work was inconsistent and a lot of times she wrote about goddess myths within a few words instead of investing the time to right a full report and complete body of their stories. To my knowledge some of the things she wrote weren't even correct but I'm not completely sure since she wrote about so many Goddesses I wouldn't know where to start. Honestly I just wish she had taken the time to write about a few important Goddesses and thoroughly research their archetype instead of mashed a lifetime's worth of information into a sentence or two. I don't recommend this for anyone who would want to know more about the Goddess, I wish I did have a good suggestion though.

Not at all what I expected
When I saw the title of the book and read the editor's synopsis, I thought it would be a comprehensive overview of the Triple Goddess aspects. Boy, was I sorely disappointed! The overviews of the three Goddess aspects were very brief and all of the information on the world Goddess myths without a more thorough overview of the Goddess aspects wasn't very helpful. When God was a Woman by Merlin Stone does a much better job of explaining the prevalence and then decline of the Goddess.

Fascinating!!
I feel this book realy helps one connect with the Goddess and to fully understand her three faces. When reading this book you seem to go on a little journey from the history of the Goddess to each aspect of her. Ever wonder which goddess to invoke for certain spells well this book will help you understand this better. Wonder how to explain the crone without making her seem scary well read about her and the history of her youll know how to tell her story a bit better. This is a very informative book that proves very helpful and if you have struggled at all with the 3 aspects of the Goddess struggle no more you will have a much better understanding of her and knowledge on how to do rituals to help you with this as well. Though this will prove invaluable to an intiate I think even a high preistess will find sastifaction and help in reading this book I think this is a must for anyone in the craft or anyone that just wants a better understanding of the Goddess!!

Beautiful without being overbearing
I first read this book in paperback from a friend of mine after we had been shopping in Glastonbury town. At the time I was going through a rough patch and recovering from an accident that nearly severed my spine. As trite as this may sound, the visualisations and general 'feel-good' atmosphere of this book did help me enormously to regain balance and faith. Yes, it is not a detailed thesis of the Goddess myths but it is the concept of the Triple Goddess presented in a soothing and easy to read manner.I give it five stars simple because I'm not always in the mood for serious literacy discourse or heavy in-depth Pagan exposition and this book fills that gap nicely.

On time - Book had underlining and notes
Overall okay - I do not remember reading that there were underlining and notes on the text - only "good" condition. It was not heavily underlined or noted, but I wish I knew.
