Best tri shorts I've tri'd... (huh huh)
Appearance: I've just recently started competing in triathlons, and figuring out the best gear to buy has been a trial & error process. These are the best tri shorts that I've found from a comfort/durability standpoint. I have a pair of the black and a pair of the blue/white. I recommend the black: they won't show dirt as prominently, plus they won't have the blue-on-white crotch stitching outlining your junk. (The picture shows white-on-white stitching, but that's not what I received.)Sizing: I am 6'1" 180lbs and have a 33" waist, and the large is what ultimately fit me best (contrary to the 2XU fit chart, which put me at a medium). I would also recommend buying the tri top separately. I found that I needed large shorts but an XL top. If you buy the one-piece suit, which I have, you stand the risk of the top fitting well but the shorts being too loose (or vice versa). However, the one advantage that the one piece does have is that the top won't start to ride up on you and make you look like you're wearing a halter top. Not a big deal, though - just look at the spectators when you get out of the water and see if they're laughing at you. If they are, pull your shirt down... and work on that gut. ;-)Material: The material is listed as 83% Polyester/17% Elastane Lycra. Beware the slightly cheaper version of these shorts, which look nearly identical, which are made of 80% Polyamide/20% Elastane. I bought a pair of the cheaper version trying to save a buck, and they itch like crazy. I don't have that issue with the 83% Polyester/17% Elastane Lycra blend.

Disappointed
I bought this on sale, and still feel I paid too much for it. I have several other tri shorts but thought these would be great for my first 70.3 tri because 2XU is a well respected brand in tri wear and I thought the compression would be great for a long distance race. I bought the same size as other tri shorts I have and decided to test them out a couple times during training, once on a bike workout and once for a bike/run brick. First, the waist was unbelievably tight, so much so that I didn't really notice the leg compression. My other tri shorts have a drawstring whereas these do not, but again the waistband was so uncomfortably tight, a drawstring is unnecessary. Secondly, it caused chafing on my inner thighs, particularly on my longer ride/run brick. Third, the construction quality was pretty poor: the decal on the L leg started peeling off after the first wash and the elastic band at the thighs is just that: an elastic band that has no grip to better adhere to the leg and is just sewn on to the bottom of the shorts, not covered up by the shorts like my other tri shorts. Glad I didn't pay full price, but still really disappointed with these shorts and have not worn them again after 2 workouts for the reasons above.

Compression is good, but the chamois is not so.
I ordered this for an upcoming sprint tri in the next month, but used it during a half marathon first and the compression fabric made my legs perform better and recover faster. Only had some chaffing along the outline of the chamois at the rear side.I'm a 32 waist and stands 5'5", ordered a medium and fits me quite well.Update: The chaffing caused by the chamois is pretty annoying now. On my 10K training runs it causes chaffing at the rear side just under the butt cheeks. And lately, on my bike rides it also caused chaffing on the inner leg just before the groin area.

Great short for Sprint & Olympic Triathlons
Bought these for my first Sprint triathlon, and ordered a large at first (I'm 6'4" @ 193lbs with a 34" waist / 36" inseam). They were an incredibly tight fit, and I ended up exchanging them for a XL. The XL is a superb fit, so beware ordering what 2XU recommends for your height and weight (Large in my case). Loved competing in these, but wouldn't want to do much more than Olympic distance as "the goods" started to ache around 15 miles, and numb shortly thereafter. Don't expect to ride IronMan distances in these without taking some breaks along the way for relief.

So far so good
I was looking for compression tri shorts and have always had really good luck with 2XU products so I went with these. The chamois is a bit different than the other tri shorts I have used from 2XU and I really didn's know how comfortable it would be on longer rides.Turns out it was the perfect tickness for me on the bike and there really felt like there was nothing there on the run. The overall fit was good, although I would like them to be a bit more snug in the thighs and butt being they are compression shorts. I found them to be just a bit tighter than my normal tri shorts. I am 5'11" 180 lbs with a 34" waste and went with a medium.I am upgrading my original rating of 4 stars to 5 after a bike crash during a race over the weekend. I basically slid 10-15 feet across the pavement, thinking my shorts would be toast, I was really happy that there was almost no damage to the shorts despite some nasty road rash.

These things have lasted through a lot of abuse. The reflective stripe on the side has faded but the fit above the knees and at the waist is great and doesn't cut into you or degrade.
