BenQ EX2780Q: Still a gaming & daily driver champion – Highly recommended! ;)
This monitor truly deserves a review. I picked up the BenQ EX2780Q 27-Inch QHD (2560 x 1440) HDRi 144Hz Gaming Monitor back in 2021, and honestly, it's still going incredibly strong as my daily driver. Connected to my RTX 5000 series GPU in my desktop PC setup, this monitor continues to deliver a fantastic experience. The QHD resolution is crisp, and the 144Hz refresh rate, combined with FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatibility, makes gaming incredibly smooth and tear-free. Whether I'm diving into the latest AAA titles or just working on everyday tasks, the IPS panel provides excellent colours and wide viewing angles. The HDRi feature genuinely enhances the visual experience, adding depth and vibrancy without being overly aggressive. The USB-C connectivity is also a huge bonus, offering convenience for various devices. What truly sets this monitor apart, however, are its exceptional integrated speakers, which even feature an integrated woofer – easily some of the best speakers I've experienced on a PC monitor! Ease of use is another highlight. It comes with a handy remote control for effortlessly changing settings, and there's also a small joystick at the back of the monitor for manual adjustments. Plus, the volume wheel at the bottom left of the monitor allows you to easily change the sound level with absolute ease. It's been perfectly compatible with my PS5 and Xbox Series X too, making it a versatile hub for all my entertainment needs. For a monitor purchased years ago, its performance and reliability have been outstanding. It's a testament to BenQ's quality. If you're looking for a feature-packed QHD monitor that stands the test of time, you really can't go wrong with the EX2780Q.

Great all round monitor!
I've never used a monitor before so had to do a lot of research. There's different display types, refresh rates, response times; it's a bit overwhelming! Never fear, this monitor is made with a lot of thought and attention to detail. 27 inch is a great size for a bedroom let's say, where you want to game on one of the new gaming consoles but also want to watch films, and general tv. 1440p resolution is a nice half-way house between 1080p and full 4K. The picture is clean and crisp. You can attach headphones via the 3.5mm audio socket or a soundbar, but honestly the sound from this unit is very good with two 2w speakers on either side and a back 5w sub-woofer so you get good bass in movies and games. There are different sound modes for clear voice, cinema, live music, etc. There is a brilliant tiny remote which allows you to control all the features from the comfort of a chair which you don't want to get out of, to play with knobs on the panel itself. Now for gamers on Microsoft's consoles, be aware that you won't at present be able to use the HDR10 standard for HDR (high dynamic range which makes the image more life-like) on a 1440p monitor because Microsoft have locked HDR to a 4K resolution only. The monitor itself has its own form of HDR called HDRi which emulates HDR very well, and YOU can USE THIS on ANYTHING, for watching tv or when gaming. My personal experience with this emulation mode on the Series S console is that it makes the picture pop in a pleasing way. The main benefit of using this monitor with the Series S is that you can play games at up to 120hz where supported such as Titanfall 2. In addition, because the new games on these consoles have new graphic options from which you can choose, such as favour frame-rate over image quality or resolution, then it's important to have a tv or monitor like this one that supports VARIABLE REFRESH RATES. Without this technology, called AMD FREESYNC on this BENQ MONITOR, you may get screen tearing with some games that spoils the experience. Do some reading for yourself, there's a lot to know about but rest assured this monitor is a real crowd pleaser!!

Staggering Value
I remember back in 2015 or so, spending £600 on an Asus ROG Swift gaming monitor. It's amazing that for £250 I can now get something that performs equally as well. Firstly some things that a lot of people don't seem to be aware of, and shouldn't be factored in when buying such a screen. HDR - if you are buying a £1000 TV, then you can expect real HDR. If you see "HDR" on monitors ranging from £250 to £600, it's a useless gimmick, don't even bother. By all means buy the screen for other reasons, but "HDR" should never be enabled. IPS Glow - no this is not a fault with the screen. It's a characteristic of IPS monitors. There is no perfect technology. TN is just plain awful from an image perspective but has low latency. VA has great blacks and no glow, but is weaker with the rest of the image quality. IPS has a "glow" that means your blacks aren't as great, but everything else is superior to VA. OLED suffers burn-in issues on computers. Take your pick basically. I find you soon get used to the blacks on an IPS and overall the image quality on this one is great. If you want an entertainment screen, I'd get VA. For PC gaming, and productivity/creativity, I recommend IPS. I have no issue using the freesync support with my NVIDIA RTX3080. Works fine. No point paying a premium for a G-Sync monitor. I don't use 144hz (if you want to use 10 bit colour, you can only use 120hz) but I can't really tell any difference once you get over 100hz, so 120hz is fine for me. I don't use speakers on monitors, so I'd rather it were cheaper and had none. That said, you could watch Youtube or something with them. I'd rather have higher quality speakers or headphones for gaming/listening to music. Text quality is the weakness of this screen. It's just "ok". I've had BenQ's before and they've been good quality, no dead pixels, no issues. Only thing I'd say is that I don't like their eyecare systems that dim the backlight depending on the ambient light in your room. Like HDR, I just disable it. I did change the stand for a third party unit that connect to the vesa mount. That's a personal issue that depends on your desk height and your height. The screen doesn't have height adjustment and that may or may not require a screen riser or change of stand. You can get a decent stand for £25. So £250, low latency, 120hz, nice image quality. Got to be 5 stars for me due to the low price, even if it isn't perfect. It's impossible to justify spending £500 on other monitors, unless you are quite literally a Pro gamer, one of the top half dozen in the world, and need 240hz or something. Or if you are truly a professional producing images for high end magazines. A lot of people claim they are such, but outside their fantasy world, this screen with do enough for 99.9% of people.

Upgraded from Samsung C27FG70 (VA Panel). Was looking to upgrade with specifications: - Inbuilt speakers - IPS panel - 2k (1440p) resolution - 27 inch Flat screen - Use for casual gaming (fps, mmo), movies, OTT platform content, basic video and photo editing Spent time reviewing ACER, AOC, Benq, Gigabyte & Lenovo. Did not consider Samsung and LG due to past experiences and was keen to try other brands. Narrowed it down to Benq EX2780Q and EX2710Q due to their best in class in-built speakers and finally went for the older 2780q (2019 launch) due to slightly better reviews and picture quality. Go for 2710Q if you want better looks, newer (2021), USB connectivity and sturdy stand. My observations on usage: - Lived up to all my expectations. - Power Cable is 6 amp 3 pin configuration. - G-sync compatible (enable via NVIDIA control panel), improved my fps experience by quite a bit via a Display Port cable (not included in box). - Speakers are loud and great, comparable to a decent subwoofer Bluetooth speaker but will not replace a good 2.1 (or more) speakers - 350-400 nits of brightness is already quite bright (for me) even under normal lighting and going any higher (nits) will be just straining your eyes (IMHO) especially when you are using the screen at a minimum of 2-3 feet away. - HDR mode basically alters the gamma + brightness and not true HDR (no local dimming technology). - The sensor for HDRi and Eye care Bright Intelligence (B.I.) modes are very useful, adjusting screen brightness based on the ambient light. Yes sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted. Great for those planning to use a screen/monitor light bar. - Movies and media content (Photos, You Tube, OTT) looks much much better as compared to 1080p VA panel (my old monitor). - The IR remote with a silicon stand (provided inbox) is compact & very handy for quickly adjusting monitor setting, mode and volume. - Recommend to use a sturdy VESA monitor stand (unless you are fine with provided monitor stand) - Your graphic card sound driver will be used for the monitor speakers. Would, hands down, recommend this product for those who are looking for a versatile monitor. Despite being launched 3 years ago and with the host of features provided, its still better than many newer monitors.

I was suffering with a high eye-strain after spending many hours in front of a screen of a MacBook Pro, in a good extent affecting my productivity as I literally getting tired without understanding why. I decided to address this problem by looking for a monitor with a higher refresh rate. Arguably it is not much of a factor nowadays with LED panels, but somewhat it worked for me. I guess it has more to do with the IPS technology of this LED screen, or the "eye care" technology from BenQ. In any case, I strongly recommend this monitor for work or other uses. Another valuable point for me was the built-in sound system, which is incredibly good and clear for my use, which was online meetings. Great purchase, I do recommend to everybody. Stop sacrificing yourself spending long hours of your day in a small screen!

For $389.00 shipped to my door, I'm pretty happy with this monitor. Clear, responsive and I like the under-stated design of the copper finish. Integrated speakers are decent for their size, and convenient. The remote is a great addition. Display consistency from edge-to-edge is very good, and the black level is better than expected for an IPS screen. HDRi is a gimmick, but you can turn it off. The auto eye-care on the other hand is much appreciated and I find this monitor very easy to look at for long stints of home office work. Would never have paid the original price for this monitor, but at a discount to sub-$400, I'm very happy.
