Guide to the Crooked Road, A: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail Paperback – May 1, 2006

I'm not usually one to give a low rating for a product but in the aim to help people researching a similar trip, so much of what's in this book is sadly out of date that I spent a few nights doing a lot of verification, only to keep finding events that have been cancelled, before I gave up and planned my trip using internet resources. The historical elements of the book are good, which is why it still gets three stars from me but if you're planning a trip on the Crooked Road and want to attend events this book needs a refresh badly.

The book and CDs are perfect for what we wanted. Educational, plus nice music and narrative on the CDs. It doesn't matter that the information might be a few years out of date. The book gives enough information that it is easy to know where to look up current details on the internet.

My husband and I traveled the Crooked Road this summer and this book was our guide. Not only did it help us plan our itinerary and learn so much about the area and it's music, but we really enjoyed listening to the accompanying CD's as our vacation soundtrack.We only ran into a few problems with restaurants no longer in business, but other than that the information was accurate and helpful.I highly recommend going on this road and if so the book is a must!

A great little book about SW Virginia, the music, where to jam, culture, lodging, food, a little history, and best of all the CDs with over 50 songs and tunes with intros by Joe Wilson

Bought this book for my sister-in-law for Christmas she was thrilled to see the history of the region where she lives in print. Great book about a subject that needs to pass from generation to generation about the music history that has been a great influence to our country. I recommend this book to every American who lives history and music.

I was so impressed when I received my copy of this book that the next day I ordered a copy for my father-in law.This book is a fountain of information for those curious about the history of "natural" and great music from Virginia.I'll be bringing this book along for a bicycle trip I have planned along the Crooked Road and will definately be learning more than I could have imagined now that I have this book.

Love everything about it! The two CD's with the music and history of the songs is great!

I purchased two of these. One for a gift for my father-in-law, and one for me. I am so happy with the guide, the CD's, the maps and the online information. What a treasure to find information on VA's music heritage/history/current sites all rolled into one package. It is an amazing value!
