Joe & Charlie: The Big Book Comes Alive

I was fortunate enough to attend a couple of Joe & Charlie Big Book seminars in early recovery. I really loved and learned a lot at them, and actually had a spiritual experience because of the uplifting and informative nature of those events. I was excited when I stumbled across this book and immediately ordered it. Though like others have noted it can be hard to read at time because it is a direct transcript of the talks, it was well worth the effort. I would just read a few pages a day, and absorb the meaning. I couldn't imagine trying to tackle this all at once!I learned a few things that I had missed in listening. To see it written out puts a different slant on it. The transcriber also did a nice job of putting certain ideas in boxes or written to the side or centered to make them stand out for clarity. There are a few typos or formatting errors, but this was a labor of love and I don't except perfection, and it's easy to figure out what was meant anyway. I'm just happy that this book exists and I plan on re-reading it every now and then. ~Shay

Only issue is there are no page numbers.

Just wish pages were numbered for group study that way you could say go to page such and such

+ For those who are friends of Bill - If you are a friend of Bill you probably have heard of Joe and Charlie. If you don't know Bill, this probably won't be a very good read for you.+ Transcript, Next Best Thing to Being There - As the description says - this is a transcript of a Joe and Charlie session. If you've been to a J&C session you will likely relive the same feeling (good or bad) that you had at the session.+ Ignore the critics of format - I made a mistake when considering this selection based on critics who said the print was too small. I wear thick glasses and the size of text is no problem. Smallest text is about 10pt - book itself is easily transportable and about 3/8-inch thick.+ Summary - great for those who know Joe and Charlie, good for those who know Bill but did not meet J&C, forget it if you do not know any one of these three men.

The book is fantastic and I would have given it 5 stars if the pages were numbered. I am a member of AA and attend a weekly meeting where we read along with the book. The book is dead on with the audio recordings but no page numbers.

I was so thrilled to find this transcript of the Joe&Charlie series. I have repeatedly told myself I need to transcribe it, but time, yet again, made this difficult. The layout is easy on the eyes. It goes through tape by tape, with room in the margins for annotations. I've listened to the series multiple times over the years. When reading, I can "hear" their voices. It's also nice to put faces to the names. It's a wonderful compendium to a speaker tape series that has seen many through not only the first year of sobriety, but as a lifetime adjunct to working the program.

Great to be able to read along with or read instead of the audio. I'm a visual learner and this allows me to see what they're saying in the video's/ apps and take notes/highlight.

I had already listened to their tapes a million times but having the chance to read the transcripition has been very useful.

Nice alternative to the Joe and Charlie CD series which I never could find the time to listen to. I like to settle down with a book and this gives me the chance to digest it at my own pace. I was so impressed that I bought two more for gifts.

A great side-by-side handbook to go along with the Joe & Charlie Tapes. Easy to read and very accessible - for the oldtimer and the newcomer.
