Seadog Steering Cable Boot 8"

Fits great, works great, and should pretty much come standard with every cable type steering system. Keeps the grease off your boat and keeps everything looking nice and tidy. I haven't noticed any reduction in turning radius as others have stated. My boat is just as maneuverable as before. Actually maybe even more so since the steering rod stays properly greased at all times.

This product is perfect for low maintenance and preservation of your steering system. My steering cable was seizing up to the point where I needed to throw my body weight into turning the boat. Turns out my tilt tube was completely corroded. On my Yamaha 60 there's no way to grease the inside of the tilt tube without removing it. I ended up replacing the tilt tube ($100) and was afraid it would also corrode. This product was my solution to preventing this. Very easy install with just 2 zip ties on each end. 20 trips on the boat later and everything is still tightly secured. Pack this boot full of marine grease and every time you turn the boat you are effectively greasing the steering cable. This product keeps the rain, water and UV rays off of the cable. So there's no need to cover it up. I would recommend this product to anyone with an exposed cable. You can't go wrong for the price and it'll save you hours in the long run.

Collapsing the boot all the way seems to slightly restrict full left turn.

use this boot for my 1988 60 hp Mercury and it fit! it keeps the water out of the steering cable end that hooks up to the outboard and eliminates the hassle of wiping it down and re-greasing it all the time... still you should lube it and inspect occasionally , but no more need to do it every time you go boating!!

My steering got seized after a long winter. Search around to find this item and it is a perfect fit. Hopefully won’t get to fix the problem after another winter.
