I bought these lamps because one of the halogen bulbs in my kitchen range hood burned out. The hood originally came with a pair of MR16 halogen lights installed. The first one lasted 10 years so I can't complain, but when I saw that LED bulbs were available, I decided to upgrade. Here's what you need to know if you're replacing halogen bulbs. The good: -Power consumption is much lower. The LED bulbs use 10% the power (5W vs. 50W) that halogens use. I'm taking their word on it here, I didn't actually measure the current or power consumption, but it's probably pretty accurate. This is good for your electric bill and your wallet, but it may cause an unanticipated problem in another area (see below). -The life of LED bulbs is, at least theoretically, quite long. Remains to be seen in my case but I like my odds. -The 3000k color temperature is a warm white that is an almost perfect match for the old halogens. I really don't like the bluish color temperature of most LEDs so this is good. The not so good: -The bulbs are slightly less bright than the old halogens even though they are supposed to be a 50W replacement. The difference isn't huge but it's noticeable, especially if the rest of the kitchen is fairly dark. -The lights (or, more likely the power supply in the hood) hum slightly when they're on. In a quiet kitchen I can hear them, whereas the old halogens were silent. This doesn't bother me because I almost always have the hood fan on if the lights are on so I don't hear them anyway. However, if you're using these bulbs in something like a reading lamp, be aware that there could be a slight hum that may get annoying. -On some applications (including my hood), the bulbs do not draw enough power to reliable keep the lighting circuit running. The symptom is that I press the light button and one or both of the lights will blink on and then go right out again. I sometimes have to press the button 2 or 3 times to keep both lights on. Once on there is no problem but this gets annoying. To be fair, the manufacturer makes a note of this right in the product description, and this is not their fault in any way. It's just a slight incompatibility between the power supply and the bulbs. Other than this (anticipated) hiccup, the lights work fine, and I'm not deducting any stars for this as it is not a design or manufacturing fault. But it is something to keep in mind if you're replacing halogen bulbs. Overall I'm happy with these. They have a couple of shortcomings in my application but nothing I can't live with. I do wish they were a bit brighter even if the power consumption were higher, but they're certainly bright enough for cooking so I guess I can't complain. I may investigate the power supply and see if there's something I can do to prevent them from failing to light, but I'll probably just leave them alone. They work fine, they're inexpensive, and I have a backup pair in case one or both of them dies prematurely.

Great lighting

I have landscape fixtures that look like rocks. They use a 20 watt halogen bulb. I replaced the halogen bulbs with these LEDs. They are an exact size match. Four rock fixtures came with a 100 watt power supply. I have 2 sets of rock lights. By switching to 5 watt LEDs, I can operate all eight fixtures from one power supply. They appear brighter than the halogens. I added 6 more 2 watt fixtures. So I have 8 rock fixtures and 6 additional fixtures for a total draw of 52 watts. I now have a spare 100 watt power supply.

Very bright and long lasting. Incredible price for these. They are bright and work great. They are on from dusk to dawn 365 days a year and they last very well.

I’m using these LEDs to replace old halogens in my kitchen ceiling. They are wonderful! Love the 4000k (kelvin) color hue. To me, 3000k is too yellow to see well, and 5000k is to glaring. We have been in the process of changing all the lights in our house to 4000k. The light from these bulbs is both whiter and brighter than the old halogens. They were easy to install. They have the two little nubs at the end. For our recessed light ceiling fixtures, you just push the bulb in and twist. They work well, come on immediately with no hesitation, and no flickering or anything like that. I do recommend these bulbs. They are infinitely better than the old hot halogen bulbs that you’re not even supposed to touch on the glass. The halogens kept blowing out. These have a really nice long life. Brighter and uses less power then the halogen bulb it replaced! Also runs a LOT cooler and does not burn my fingers when lit at all. The four pack should last the life of the tree without having to worry about finding/getting replacements.
