A Magical Story
Daisy Dawson dawdles. It makes her late for school, more often than not, but it also allows her to become a keen observer of the world around her. Determined to be on time to school, Daisy spies a butterfly caught in a spider's web. As the spider comes out to attack, Daisy steps in and saves the butterfly--and suddenly finds that she can communicate with animals. In this first book, Daisy has to mount a rescue when the friendly dog, Boom, gets picked up by the dog catcher.I bought this book for my 7-year-old to read independently. She immediately fell in love with Daisy and the menagerie of animals in this story. I would get the nightly recap of what she read...down to Cyril (she wasn't sure how to pronounce his name) the karate-loving squirrel. Daisy Dawson is on Her Way! is a book that my daughter would grab and take to bed with her or sit on the sofa and read while her older sister was immersed in a book. My daughter loved this book so much that I decided to pick it up and find out what the fuss was all about."How far did you get?""Have you read about Cyril yet?""Why are you knitting? You should be reading Daisy Dawson!"I was charmed, too. And saddened that Daisy Dawson #2 wasn't immediately available at Amazon. I had to order it with a future delivery date, but I've since been able to tell my Daisy Dawson loving daughter that Daisy Dawson #2 is on her way. This is a fun and wonderful book for any child who wishes she could communicate with animals. And for her parents.

Eloquent writing for elementary school aged children
Do you ever wonder what happened to really good literature for children? I remember being riveted as my second grade teacher read chapter after chapter of "Little House on the Prairie". I wanted that same feeling for my 6 year old daughter...but didn't think she was quite ready for the Little House series yet. I am so happy I stumbled across the Daisy Dawson series. Steve Voake write's beautifully. He weaves in lovely vocabulary words that stretch the intellect of the young mind and fit the story so well they are easily understood in context. Daisy Dawson is a spirited and kindhearted protagonist that many young girls will connect with...especially those who love all creatures great and small - from earth worms to horses. My daughter can hardly wait for the next chapter as each chapter closes with a bit of a cliff hanger leaving her wondering what will happen next. We just started number 2 in the series "Daisy Dawson and the Secret Pond" and so far it is every bit as compelling and eloquent as the first book. Well done!

Good book for animal lovers with a kind lead character.
My daughter (2nd grade) has become a very competent reader and reads more books than either of her parents. She loves Junie B Jones but I was getting a little tired of the sassy-ness and less than exemplary behavior. In contrast Daisy Dawson is kind and positive and it was nice to hear what the animals had to say. It was common to hear laughter coming from the top bunk during her reading sessions. My kid devours books and has a love of animals and in some part that is due to great books like the Daisy Dawson series. Keep up the good work.

Cute book!
I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter and we had so much fun reading it! It is cute and simple, very fun to read and we are enjoying the sequel also. I love the different characters, (gerbils, dog, horse, cat, squirrel) it is fun to do the voices. Daisy can talk to animals and with a few animal friends helps another animal in need. We had a good time laughing and found the story entertaining. I do wish the chapters were shorter, but I would recommend this book anyway! It is a great length for a beginning first grader! Longer than a picture book, but not quite as long as Magic Tree House.

A little advanced for my reluctant first grader. But ...
A little advanced for my reluctant first grader. But the text is just large enough that she doesn't feel too overwhelmed, and the story lines are simple and cute enough to keep her engaged. Hopefully she'll be breezing through this series on her own, soon enough.

Daisy Dawson Books are the Best!
My seven year old granddaughter relates to Daisy Dawson. She is quirky, has a talking dog friend who lives next door and they have wonderful adventures that only 7 year olds can appreciate.
