Excellent for cutting through Roots
This review is for the drain spade. - Great for cutting through roots and digging a trench in root filled soil. Poor for removing soil from the trench. Would be so much more useful, if the handle was full length, allowing it to be used to scoop soil out of a trench without constant bending. - I found it works best to dig the trench with this, and then use a standard long handled trenching shovel to scoop the loose dirt out.

Effective...
This shovel works even better than I had hoped. The notched and very slightly sharpened nose cuts easily through small roots and the root slayer serrations along the sides are very effective! The handle is also much more comfortable than the conventional D-handle on most drain/sharpshooter style shovels. I highly recommend!

New Best Friend: Radius Garden 22911 Root Slayer Drain Spade XL
The Radius Garden 22911 Root Slayer Drain Spade XL is awesome. I've used it to clear roots from a wooden fence line and make a slot, so I can install a rhizome barrier to keep the neighbor's scrub oak out . On the really large roots I used a sawsall, but on the smaller roots the size of large carrots, it slices right through them. I've used it to find buried irrigation tubing. I've used it dig around fence posts to get a fence section out. It cuts through sod and dirt easier than a regular shovel. So glad I ran across this tool.

Was a good design but too flimzy
This is my 4th product from the Rootslayer line. I love the O-shaped Rootslayer both large & small but needed this long blade & long handle design. While the design looks good & the extra long blade can cut the deeper roots, both the blade and rod are too flimsy & flexible. Even though I was careful, the blade broke in just 2 months. I use it once a week. Anyone know where I can get a warranty replacement? I wish the manufacturer update the thickness & sturdiness of the shovel. They can make thicker rod at the base and taper up near the top with the same amount of fiberglass but stronger. I would pay the extra for the beefed up revision honestly.

Great for digging perennials
I saw a friend use this when she came to get perennials from my garden. I went inside and ordered one. Worth the money if you split, move perennials regularly!

great tool
this shovel really does a good job chopping thru soil with lots of roots. Not much of a digger, but great for going around bushes and trees. Very satisfied.
