Perfect for leveling sand
The tool base is solid, well made. The handle is made of two parts that once you slide the two together are secured with a bolt and nut. It is all stainless steel. The base pivots freely which I found to be annoying for my application. I will explain. I am redoing an 27' above ground pool and need something wider than a garden rake to spread and level the sand. I Know it is advertised for spreading small amounts of dirt on grass but I knew it will work for my application. The sand was in piles, I had to shoveled and spread it the best I could. It was far from flat. When I first started to use the rake, I started to push/pull and quickly realized that the tool will do the job but I need it to learn how to use it efficiently. When I was pushing noticed the pole starting to bow when the leading edge accumulated to much sand. And when I pulled and sand started to accumulate in the leading-edge creating resistance, the base since it freely pivots, it will flip the rake upside down. This is was the annoying part, I could barely move the sand from one place to another before it flipped. When I pull the rake will flip and when I pushed the pole will bow. I knew that pulling was the way to do it if I wanted to move sand. I found out that if I lowered the handle, I could pull a lot more sand without flipping the base do to the relative angle between the base and handle. This worked but it would have broken my back because I would have to lower it almost to the ground. I have used concrete floats in the pass which one can raise and lower the leading edge so it will not dig. I was thinking if there was a way to raise the edge as I pull, I knew this tool will be perfect due to its size and weight.I figured it out. If you noticed on the picture, I placed a strap so when I raise the handle the leading edge will raise. This was the answer, I was able to move sand since it prevented the base from flipping and by adjusting the leading-edge angle, I was able to drop sand in the lower spots. The leading edge will plow through the high spots, load the rake with sand and as I raised the handle it will drop the sand. It worked perfect. I then thoroughly wetted the sand and was able to remove the strap and actually go back and forth leaving a smooth surface. Knowing what I know now, will I buy it again for this purpose, YES.

Great tool for levelling soil
Good tool to work a topdressing soil into your lawn. It is light-weight stainless steel which helps tremendously. I found mowing the grass as short as possible made it much easier to slide across the grass, but it is still a serious work-out. We bought 14 yards of topdressing soil from a local soil and mulch business. It was about $45 a yard but was really good quality with no debris and no clumps (which would have made spreading it even more of a chore). Our soil mix had roughly 50% sand in it so it was exactly what we were looking for.My lawn was incredibly uneven, and we tried different methods, but the one that we found most effective was to have my wife bring me a wheelbarrow full and dump it in a couple locations. Then I would spread it out until it was a couple of inches thick. Then we would walk on it as much as possible, raking more dirt to the spots that sank. Then rake aggressively again until it was as level as possible.

Gets the job done, with a little practice
I'm not a professional, simply a homeowner trying to improve my lawn. That being said, this leveling tool gets the job done for my purposes. The assembly was simple, and it's quality seems adequate for light use. I'm not sure how well it would hold up with heavy/regular use.It definitely takes a little practice to use it effectively. You almost have to provide a bit of upward lift with your forward hand to "glide" the tool across the ground. If you let it sit on the ground with it's own weight and try to push/pull, the front/back edge will simply catch on any unlevel soil or grass and flip the tool head. Additionally, I found that gliding in a circular motion, instead of straight back and forth also helps prevent the flipping. Fortunately, the tool is very lightweight, so using this technique is pretty easy.I've used this tool now to topdress my lawn, where I had low spots, and to level new soil over a large empty area for seeding. In both cases, it worked well when using the above methods. As I also mentioned above, this isn't a beefy tool. If you're careful with the tool and store it well, it seems like it should last. If used aggressively, however (constant use and just tossed on the ground or in a truck when not using), it probably won't hold up forever. This is the tradeoff for it being lightweight.Overall though, I'm happy with the purchase for my uses.

Sturdy, long lasting and easy to use yard tool.
When this purchase arrived, I was surprised to find all of the components to be made of high-quality stainless steel. This construction will leave me with many years of use for this high-quality rake. Many outdoor tools are fabricated using cheap steel or aluminum. The cheap steel rusts and the aluminum while light they are not durable. And most outdoor tools for some reason use steel assembly bolts that will quickly degrade requiring replacement. This rake appears to be 100% stainless steel indicating working knowledge of an outdoor environment. The rake head is a little heavy, but it needs to be in order to plow through material to be leveled without jumping up and over the material resulting in additional passes and more work. The rake handle is fairly grippy with or without gloves reducing the likelihood of hand blistering from repeated motions. This rake shows very thoughtful design and the appropriate choice of materials for its usage environment. This was an excellent choice for a selection and feel that I've received more than my money's worth for this product. I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about lawn maintenance, weekend warrior or professional.
