Hopefully it's as good as the old goodyear hoses
I've been on the hunt for the perfect hose for my plumbers. I don’t have long term tests, but my plumbers have opinions about the hoses just by feeling them. These are guys who have been plumbing for 30-50 years. “Damage from kinking” is basically the top priority for hoses, because every hose will be kinked, and it creates a weak spot where it will kink easier next time, and eventually break at that spot. "Damage from kinking" is the top priority for hoses, as every hose will inevitably kink, creating a weak spot that will kink more easily in the future and eventually break. I'm reviewing only 5/8" variants, and I'll include full descriptions at the end for reference. Yotoo: $40 for 100ft, great price (50ft for $30 is less of a deal). It seems like good quality, we use it across our gravel drive way and several trucks ran it over, no issues yet. It’s thick enough walls to not puncture or fall apart quickly, it’s flexible enough to use easily, and when kinked, it bounces back reasonably well. It more flexible than the continental, stiffer than flexzilla, but it’s unclear if the outer layer is as durable. It feels like Flexzilla has the weakest outerlayer. I would take Yotoo over Flexzilla and Gilmour. Flexzilla, Gilmour flexogen, zero G are all $40 for 50 feet. Flexzilla is unimpressive, check out project farm’s youtube video comparing garden hoses. The hose arrived rolled up, and it had 2 kinks in it already. It is flexible, but it can still kink. If you want “flex” such as the name suggests, then get a “flat” hose such as the Zero G. It is light, so that’s nice. The o-ring does not impress us and we’re not convinced it will last longer than a washer, it’s not clear if you can replace the O ring with a washer if the ring is damaged. Overall, yes, this hose will probably not get weak spots from kinking, but it will kink, a lot, and the whole outer jacket feels weak. Gilmour Flexogen is the stiffest hose I’m comparing. It resists kinking really well, it scored the best on Project farm for the normal hoses. My plumbers don’t like the stiffness though as they use a hose reel, and it can simply be a pain to use a stiff hose that keeps the hose reel shape. Also, when it does kink, the stiffness is being broken, you can feel/see that happening even when new. This will probably create a weak point worse than the other hoses. We also worry that heavy use, especially in the heat, the stiffness will break down. If it does that evenly it might be okay, I’m worried it’ll just weaken the kink spots, making it easier to kink/break. Zero G, flat hose, we need to test it for durability as we’ve never used flat garden hoses before. A flat hose really avoids the main problem, it doesn’t kink nor get weak spots. Shrinking/expanding hoses have terrible durability, so Zero G which does not expand should be more durable. My plumbers like the idea, and plan to put a 100ft on the hose reel first, since it’ll take up hardly any room, then keep a non-flat 50ft on top of that for daily use. The downside of flat hoses is that they have lower flow, and need to be “straightened” for higher flow, and they can be slow to drain something with no pressure, as pressure is needed to keep it from collapsing. Also, kinking a flat hose to turn the water off is not so easy, but you should get a shutoff valve for any hose in my opinion (more on that below). If you are okay with the downsides of a flat hose, the upsides are worth considering, especially if it’s as durable as we hope. Continental Premium, $50 for 50ft, this was under the brand Goodyear (like the tires). Assuming they have not changed quality, we have used goodyear hoses for years. It has a really durable rubber. The stuff that makes the rubber keep it’s shape (sometimes called “midlayer” or “reinforcement”) will get very flexible with use, but it starts off stiffer than the flexzilla. But when kinked, it doesn’t feel like it’s creating a weak spot, it’s breaking in, not breaking it. The rubber feels much thicker than Flexogen too, which helps prevent kinks, and increases durability. If you don’t care about weight, and you plan to use it a long time, I would bet on this over the Flexzilla for the extra $50. Now let’s talk premium…Polyurethane Hoses Water Right 600 series hose, $95 for 50ft, or $150 for 100ft. Seems pricey, but it’s not as pricey as the next hose. The PU (polyurethane) naturally resists kinking, and naturally holds it’s shape. It has a midlayer to help keep it stiff, but the PU is helping the midlayer stay circular, unlike rubber and pvc hoses. PU hoses are decently light. We have not tested this one yet (we have it in hand, passed around, but it’s waiting to be placed on a truck) but it does seem to be right in between the quality of the cheaper hoses and the quality of the Eley hose. It wants to bounce back and stay circular (not oval) but not to the degree of trhe Eley hose. The Water Right hose shows it’s reinforcement, whereas the Eley hose is totally smooth. Water right is 12lbs per 100ft, Eley is 14lb per 100ft, I think eley has more PU on top of the midlayer. Water right has an outside diameter of .75-.85” (it’s a little oval) and Eley is .9” (it’s almost perfectly roun). So I suspect there’s an extra .1” of PU on Eley. My biggest concern is that Water Right does not bounce back to round with the same urgency as Eley, a think kink spots will form, and get weak, and break, just like all the cheaper hoses. Eley hose, $115 for 50ft, $200 for 100ft. You get what you pay for. They are not sold at amazon. This thing shows absolutely no signs of being kinked, it appears to not be weakened in any way. Which is weird, because their listing shows a thick midayer that looks like it would feel like the Gilmour. But actually feeling the hose, it’s hard to tell that it has any reinforcement, it gives the feeling that it is solid PU all the way through. But the most impressive part is when you release the kink, it bounces back like a spring, like it WANTS to be unkinked with a vengeance. It’s also slightly less stiff than the Water Right, and a lot less stiff than the Gilmour. But the stiffness is not as much of a problem, when it wants to be straight. It’s only a problem when it wants to be curved. By straight, I mean straighter than it is on the hose reel. Gilmour want to stay in the hose reel tight curve (2 foot diameter) Eley wants to go into a 10 foot curve. Water Right wants to be somewhere in between. In theory, you can buy repair kits for all of these hoses, but the Eley hose sells their own kits, and it seems like you would have a “from the factory” finished product using their kits, with no flow restriction. You would be guaranteed the fittings have the perfect diameter for the hose. That is another argument for buying extra long (Eley sells their hoses up to 200ft) you pay less per foot, and you can cut it down if damage occurs. But the repair tool costs $25, the fittings cost $11 for each side, it adds up. Eley also has a 10 year warranty, but it’s probably always abuse that causes hoses to fail. If Zero G, or some other flat hose does not work out, I’ll probably start buying the max length eley hoses and make our own length. I highly recommend getting the “STYDDI Brass Garden Hose Shut Off Valve Full Flow” it’s expensive ($15ish) but it’s the biggest I can find. If you don’t have a shutoff, you will kink the end of your hose on occasion to turn the water off. Hoses will still kink on accident, but having a shutoff means you’ll never have to purposefully kink it again. If you plan to leave a hose connected 24/7 and especially be used, such as for an RV or irrigation, mixing metals is a problem, water flow across 2 different metals it will cause galvanic corrosion. If you have a brass hose bibb, you want a hose with brass fittings for that application. But if you just have a garden hose connected all summer long and you’re just using it an hour a day, I don’t imagine mixed metals being a problem. Top of the line garden hose
Continental Premium Garden Heavy Duty Cold Water Garden Hose We have two Continental hoses. They are made like products were in the 1950's, with quality materials. - The vast majority of today's garden hoses have aluminum fittings, typically anodized or painted. The problem with that is that virtually all home garden hose faucets are brass -- and aluminum/brass contact will corrode the aluminum over time. Try unscrewing the aluminum fitting when that happens. Continental uses machined brass (not stamped as on cheaper hoses) brass fittings, so corrosion is not an issue. - If a hose reel is used to wind up and unwind a decent hose such as this one, hose kinks are generally not an issue. Customers that whine about kinks typically don't use hose reels and are shocked that their hose kinks. Most hoses are more likely to kink if coiled manually. - The Continental hoses inside diameter is 5/8". Given than most homes have 1/2" ID pipes feeding their garden hose faucet, 5/8" is fine. - 100% Made in America If I need a third hose, I'll get another one of these...

GREAT PRODUCT
This has been a long time stand by for my yard. My last one was 21 years old and withstood the desert heat. The hose is easy to move around and the water flows easily. You will not be disappointed.

Sturdy and Well-made
Why did you pick this product vs others?: This is a heavy-duty rubber hose. I’ve only had it one day so this is a very early review which I will likely update as time goes on. The hose is indeed heavy. I purchased two 100’ hoses because I have a half acre property and hooking the two hoses together is the only way I can water all my trees the length of my property. It will be a challenge to drag such a heavy hose and I’m hoping it will be worth it I bought a really nice lightweight hose that leaked within two months. This one was difficult to get unraveled as all of the loops wanted to kink but hopefully going forward the kinking won’t be too much of a problem. I have found that every single hose I’ve ever purchased has had a problem with that, it just comes with the territory. I did notice that this hose got hot in the sun, which may require using gloves to handle the hose in high temperatures. I think this hose is sturdy and well-made. Time will tell whether it lasts, whether kinking will be a problem, or whether the weight of the hose will just render it impractical. I’ll keep you updated.

Heavy Duty, Super Reliable and Looks Great
This is my second continental hose over the past half decade. Both have been outside and used at least 3 times a week during that time. I have hit this hose with a weedwacker, thrown it around and left it coiled vs uncoiled. Never does it puncture or even fade in the sun. This is a truly quality product and I believe its an agreeable price. A great feature is that, although heavy, lays perfect anytime you roll it up whether by hand or on a reel. I cannot say I have ever had a kink in the hose either even when I am yanking the hose around a corner from where the spigot is. Only negative I can think of is that over time if you are rolling up by hand you may get some black residue on your hand but that comes off with just some water! I would definitely recommend this as the go to gardening tool.

Great Hose
Great hose. Doesn’t have memory like other cheap hoses. Less kink ablility, but will kink if loop pulled tight. Not cheap like other hoses.

i would suggest ordering a rubber hose. Ive gone through several of those cheap vinyl ones, and finely broke down and bought this one. I went with the continental brand because of their reputation. No regrets at all, nice and heavy and seems very durable, much easier to roll up compared to vinyl.

Nice soft feel, good rubber coating. It will servive normal house psi and 3000 psi pressure washer. Will it kink, yes but not easily or too bad. Its soft, so unraveling and hanging is easy. Feels like a good quality shop hose becasue of the rubber. Looks good too!
