The Development of the Unconscious Mind (Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology)

It was truly shocking to read chapter 4 - 'All our Sons: The Developmental Neurobiology and Neuroendocrinology of Boys at Risk.' Despite the toilet humor that is identity politics, we see that girls and boys are very different creatures. Even the placenta of a girl fetus is different from that of a boy fetus.Male fetal brain right hemispheres develop more slowly than female right brains, leaving boys with a wider time window of vulnerability to the deleterious effects of ubiquitous environmental endocrine disruptorsthat - at critical periods of fetal development - nullify the body's evolutionary mechanisms for normal brain growth. This slower right-brain development of the male fetus is also what accounts for the fact that male infants require even more from a mother in terms of affect regulation than do female infants.Girls are born with their brain emotional attachment machinery more intact (two years ahead of boys!), and so girls and their mothers are a natural fit at birth whereas the boy infant may be more difficult to mother 'good enough.' Many mothers are not up to this task (owing to their own insecure/disordered attachment to their own mothers), and so insecure/disordered attachment of the male infant is the likely outcome.For decades, we have been in an epidemic of brain disorders (read: more aggressive males) caused by'forever chemicals' that Corporate America and their revolving-door government enablers have introduced into our environment. Any country at permanent war needs more aggressive males, and so this state of affairs dovetails nicely with the persistent needs of the U.S. War Machine. It's also good for locking lots of people up which is a specialty of the incoming Biden/Harris administration (every factually informed, thinking American knows this - especially our African American communities - but, I digress). If drugs are ever decriminalized (not likely, just too damn much money involved), these disordered, aggressive males will be an important source of income for the Prison Industrial Complex. Investors take note.While Big Food and Big Pharma have rendered our alimentary canals their private 'Rio de Oro,' while Big War has rendered modern warfare a Stanley Milgram experiment, we see that our bodies have been rendered repositories of 'forever chemicals' that were purposely dumped into our one and only environment as corporate externalities.We are a very stupid species.As we exit the Holocene thanks to Big Oil (and who doesn't love gasoline?), it is comforting to know we will soon be extinct.
