The one thing you should have with you for your Pediatric Residency
Small, Pocket sized, but complete. It covers most of the things that you want to remember 'right now and in 5 minutes' in a way that will give you a full understanding on the what it is, how you'll see it and what to do. It takes you from pahtophysiological and genetic information to diagnosis, to what lab-work to ask, to how to treat in less than two pages in most of the cases. Personally I prefer it than Harriet. Harriet can be confusing at some points and can be too concise when you require a little more detail. It lacks in two things : No pictures (so what, H-L doesn't have any either) and you don't get extensive tables of dosages for drugs. (that's why it is not as bulky as h-l)It has saved me plenty and it isn't as expensive. I would totally recommend it to any pediatrics residency student. Even if you won't need it as much (because you feel you know everything =+P~ )It will look nice on your bookcase (it has a cute cover).I would not be surprised if this becomes the next generation's Harriet Lane. You will not regret this purchase. Iwas skeptical myself before I bought it, but now, I am glad I bought this book that no one in my residencyprogram had even heard of.

A must for wards!
I bought this book while I was doing a pediatric Sub-I, and I was amazed at how much information it has. Honestly it covers so much, but in a short enough manner that you can read up on your patients before rounds, etc. Now that I am in my peds residency, I use it all the time. The medical students that worked with my on wards said that it has "everything you're going to be pimped on." That's probably the most accurate description of this book! It has patho-physiology, clinical manifestations, differentials, and treatment plans. It's divided into systems, which are in alphabetical order, and each system's problems are also divided into ABC order, so you rarely need to use the index which is a big time saver. Most conditions fit on 1 to 2 pages. Very to the point. What else could you ask for? More and more of my peers are buying it, but I still leave mine on the nursing station, and very one uses it. Buy it! You'll be so glad you did!

review from a pediatric hospitalist
The content is accessible and well organized for quick acquisition of knowledge for teaching students, residents and colleagues not to mention for the reader as well. The references are either classic or outdated. A lot of work and time went into the preparation of this book. Are the authors and editors planning to revise and publish a more recent edition?

Great book
In comparison with Harriet Lane this book does not have as many tables with numbers of normal values and such. However, besides this I find Philadelphia Guide better in giving you the practical information that you just need in order to care for your patient without talking a lot about many things around. I am regularly checking the information against the Nelsons and have not found one difference yet. Too bad the book is not smaller so that I could keep it in my pocket (the publisher should consider that). Otherwise a great book.

A MUST HAVE for any Pediatric Intern/Resident
During my intern year I carried this book everywhere with me. I would read quickly on any new cases before rounds to be prepared for any questions from attendings and also to prepare prior to morning report. I always sounded smarter. Later as a senior I used it to read quickly prior to rounds to offer quick teaching points to interns and students.

good for introductory inpatient pediatrics
bought this for my first job in an inpatient setting. good for a introductory look into the inpatient world, but wouldn't recommend for more indepth needs as your treatment gets more advanced.
