Can this be used to lubricate slide pins as well not just pistons?

Absolutely. Just make sure you don't put any lubricant on the tip of the pin... the lubricant will actually stop the pin from sliding all the way into the "boot".

This is better or 3M?

Have no idea, sorry. Have not used the 3M. This product is what was called for when doing a project, so this is what we used.
