and plastic separator--so a pretty hefty cable
I am a DIYer just doing a few plug ends at home using Cat6 STP with the 23AWG wire, foil shield, drain wire, and plastic separator--so a pretty hefty cable. I read some other reviews here, essentially stating these won't work with Cat6. The manufacturer is pretty clear about these being for Cat5e or Cat6, and even give max dimensions for the overall cable and the individual wires. So I checked all that, and didn't understand why these didn't work for some people using Cat6 since the specs are clearly OK. So I took a chance and bought them here on Amazon. Anyway, they worked just fine with my Cat6. It is probably a little easier to use them with Cat5e, and no matter what cable you use, I am sure it would get tedious if you are doing a lot of them at once. I stripped 3 inches, pulled the foil and drain wire back, clipped the separator as far back as I could, and unraveled the pairs. I think one key is to get as much of the twist out of the wires as possible, I also straightened them by pulling each over the rounded end of a needle-nose plier. Get them straight and in order, then clip the very ends all at once at a bit of an angle. Then I fed the first four wires at one time. You might have to make a couple of attempts. Then I fed the last wire. So at this point I had wires 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 in place. Then I fed 5, 6, and 7 one at a time, which is where having stripped 3 inches of wire comes in handy. The last wire will require some additional patience, but I got it to work each time after just a little effort. It is supposed to be fairly tight, there is only so much room that RJ45 can give you. If you don't get the wires straight, or if you mar or crimp any insulation, you will have more trouble getting them fed thru. Then I pulled the 8 wires until the cable insulation met the back of the plug. I wrapped the drain wire tight around the foil and then pinched the end a little bit with a plier so it would tuck into the plug easier. A final pull on the wires pulls the foil/insulation well into the plug. Then I clipped the 8 wires as close as possible to the end. I used an ordinary RJ45 crimper I borrowed from the IT guys at work; they did not have the Platinum crimper. Once it was crimped, I used a utility knife to crush cut the last 1/16" of wire exposed at the end. Done. These were my first attempts at this, and all I can think is that if you are using Cat5e or Cat6 and they don't work for you....operator error?

Not for CAT6 f/utp.
We were at a job and needed these connectors immediately. Client had ordered CAT6 F/UTP cabling and we had brought the standard CAT5 supplies. Bought these and had them overnighted to the hotel. They say CAT5e/6, but four experienced techs and almost an hour of trying and we couldn't get the wires of CAT6 through the holes. We even cut a single wire and tried to feed it through with no success. Tried it on 4 different connectors with same results. Now stuck with more CAT5 connectors. I already have thousands of CAT5 connectors on hand. Had to order connectors from another company and pay to have them overnighted.
