This desk is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! It is sturdy, attractive and for my purposes useful. It does not smell out of the box which was a big concern of mine. It looks like a well-kept antique. I am not using the insert inside the desk or on top. It actually looks really nice sitting on top of the desk but I simply couldn't use it that way where I have the desk. Without the insert, there is room inside to hold my 16" laptop and a letter tray for my mail. I can close it up and hide the mail and keep the laptop safe from my cat. The desk is shipped by freight and took about a month to arrive (more than worth the wait!). It was packed very well and suffered no shipping damage. All the new, happy owner has to do is attach the legs to the body of the desk.Two asides: Because the desk top slopes up, not all letter trays will fit. I ordered one from amazon which was too large so I put it to another use and stopped in Staples. They had the perfect size and in matching wood! The second point is that I had intended to use the insert in a bookcase that sits to my left. I specifically ordered the bookcase because it was supposed to be 30" so that the insert would have fit. I bring this up because the bookcase turned out to be only 26 1/2" wide so the insert didn't fit. A representative at the store said the verge (top) was 30". To my way of thinking that is cheating but he said everyone did it. A friend figured out that I could be losing space for as many as 20 books, depending on size. Please everyone, start measuring your furniture and if it isn't the claimed size, complain. It is cheating. So then, I don't know how I will use the insert but am glad I have it as I'll figure out something.Just be aware that I love this desk and am so happy to have it. Even if I got a larger desk later, I'd keep this desk just for the look although it can be used to store office supplies. By the way, there is a large, lined drawer with dividers for clips, etc. in the desk. The props that open to hold the top are strong and sturdy. I'd buy this desk again over and over. As I said, it's gorgeous!!

I bought this desk to fit into a small space in my bedroom. I was torn between two other desks and am so happy I chose this one. First of all its beautiful. Secondly its so functional. I took the insert with the dividers and drawers out and put it on top of the desk and filled it with all my antique books, photos etc...on top I put a small touch lamp and more photos. Inside was very spacious and thats where I now put my laptop and TWO large boxes/baskets to hold bills cards envelopes etc. The main drawer is very spacious and has dividers for paper clips stamps etc as well as plenty of room for cards envelopes scissors. I own the large full size version of this desk and thats another reason I went with the smaller version. It really does give the impression of an older antique desk which is what I wanted. The drop down part is sturdy and well made. The tabs on the drawers in the insert are usable and you can put labels inserted into them to designate what the drawers are for. It really does look like an old library antique desk. Great purchase. Easy to put the legs on. Came packed VERY well....in fact the unpacking took the most time. Very happy with the entire purchase.

The desk is beautiful. I bought it to fit in an alcove at the top of my stairs. It's the first thing you see when you walk in my front door. The desk its self is of solid wood and the detail on the front is very pretty, the only reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because the inside divider section was damaged when unpacked. This is probably due to the FedEx guy not keeping the package upright like the box says. But it was a simple fix. All the shelves them selves were fine the just came apart as they were only held with tiny nails. I just realigned the compartments and nailed them back together also with a bit of glue. It looks perfect and no one would know.

This is a very attractive piece of furniture that friends have admired. I was looking for a small, attractive desk that would add to the look of my living room. I wanted to keep a laptop computer in it, but when you close the desk, there is no room for the laptop due to the cubbyhole organizer. When the desk is opened there is ample room room to work with the computer... you just can't store it in the closed desk. I have seen small desks that have the organizer attached to the top of the desk leaving approximately an inch of space under it which would allow for a laptop to slide under it and be stored nicely when the desk is closed. Too bad this isn't like that.

This desk is beautiful! It arrived in only a few days, beautifully packed and in perfect condition. My goal with this desk was to get the mail off my kitchen counter, and this is perfect for that. I like that you can hide everything. Aside from that, though, it is a beautiful piece of furniture. It's very sturdy. I can't stop looking at it! All you have to do is put the legs on, which was a piece of cake. Also, the top is wide enough to accommodate a lamp and pictures. In my case, I have it in a small space in the dining room, and it matches my table and chairs perfectly. There's nothing I don't like about it! Also, I had a question for Thyine, and the customer service was prompt and friendly. I had seen this desk on several sites, but they all said it was no longer available. I'm so glad Amazon still had it.

From pictures and reviews I thought this was a good gamble. It was more than I would otherwise have spent, but it's design fit so well with my antique radio and our china cabinet that the extra expense was justified. Assembly was easy enough - I did it myself. The shipping packaging was good and spared it from damage. I cut a hole in the 1/4" back to install a desktop cable plug for my laptop and phone charger. I'll install a surface-mount two-gang receptacle for power to other objects and I'll be good to go. It's all real wood, not pressed particleboard and has the very nice inlay on the drop lid. The cubby hole insert slides out as needed, so I'm trying it both ways, inside the desk and on top of it. I am very pleased with the craftsmanship of this desk.
