Southern Living Fix It & Freeze It/Heat It & Eat It: A quick-cook guide to over 200 make-ahead dishes

I own quite a few cookbooks. Most of them, I will never use. This book, however, is WONDERFUL! This is a FULL PAGE SIZE book with a PICTURE OF EACH AND EVERY RECIPE!!!!!!!!!! I thought this book might be just full of make ahead casseroles, but it's not. Very unique and creative recipe ideas that are EASY TO MAKE and not using 25 ingredients. I even found that many of the recipes call for things I already keep on hand in my kitchen.--in the beginning of the book it has pages and pages of recipes that are 'make 2 meals in one'. You make the main course and use it for 2 separate meals. Each entree has it's own picture, of course. For example: Recipe one has easy bbq chicken, and then recipe 2 uses that same chicken to make a hearty Brunswick stew. How cool is that?? Most people making double meals to freeze just make the same meal TWICE...not in this book, you get to make a separate meal to freeze!--Gives tons of tips for how to freeze things properly: everything from cookies, pizza dough, fruits, veggies, dips, sauces, cakes, to main courses and casseroles.--Did I mention EACH recipe comes with a full page and a PICTURE?--Gives detail instructions on thawing and re-heating, as well as, how to package up things in the freezer and what type of storage to use.Most of these recipes are very easy to follow and family friendly. These are not 'high-end gourmet' meals. If you are looking for that, this is probably not going to knock your socks off. But if you are looking for ways to make healthy, hearty, and time saving meals for the family, you're probably going to love this book as much as I do. I've already show this off to a few people, and they cannot wait to borrow it. I think I know what several people will be getting for Christmas this year!!!This book really does provide great step by step instructions on how to FIX IT, FREEZE, IT, HEAT IT, & EAT IT! That's what you are getting from a trusted name like Southern Living!

I thought some of the information about the ability to freeze foods was very helpful.For the most part the recipes are tomato based and since my family can not eat tomato,the use of the book was limited. However, the recipe for a white fruit cake was a huge hit withmy family. It was moist, very tasteful and an excellent dessert option.

While I wish some of the recipes were a bit healthier, the concept is amazing. I've used the freezing guidelines for certain foods on other receipes I prefer better. That said, I use this book WAY more often than I thought. It's simply perfect for having prepared food at the ready year round, and especially useful for large family gatherings. Since purchasing this book for myself years ago, I've purchased it as gifts for people that constantly ask to borrow my copy!

Before buying any cookbook, I borrow a copy from our vast inter-library system. As usual, I was completely satisfied with this cookbook which I think is fantastic. I've looked at several make-ahead cookbooks that have an overwhelming number of recipes, most of which are simply variations of a few basic recipes. This book is the perfect size. It contains a nice variety of recipes with specific instructions on how to freeze, defrost (if necessary) and cook each recipe. It gives directions for cooking immediately, and gives precise information at which point in the preparation the food can be frozen, i.e. after complete preparation, partway through, etc. The basic information is more than adequate to apply to other recipes. I have never come across a Southern Living cookbook that I didn't love and this one is no exception.

With the internet it seems we don’t buy cookbooks much anymore. I’ve had this almost two years and have to say it’s my favorite. Easy meals that can be prepped the night before or weeks before. We eat mostly low carb and these can be easily modified. No fancy ingredients and tasty. Husband approved too.

This book includes great recipes with simple ingredients. It has been helpful in learning what and how to freeze different foods. I found this book at a retail establishment and the cost was almost double what I paid on Amazon. The book that I received from Amazon was brand new, even though it said used. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes a variety of simple recipes that are easy to make with ingredients you understand. Plus, if you have a busy schedule, this teaches you how to make and freeze foods that can be eaten later.

I had great expectations for this book since it's from Southern Living and they always have great recipes. I was not exactly wowed. Thought it would explain the process of freezing. And a lot of the casseroles and stuff need to be defrosted before you actually cook them. Increasing the time needed to get dinner ready on the table. I thought, from the title, it would be direct from freezer to oven to dinner table. A lot of the recipes aren't really new and lot's of tex-mex kind of recipes which I am not crazy about. There are a lot of better freeze it books out there. I don't think I will be using this cookbook much.

I am very happy with this purchase. I prepared a number of these recipes for a large family vacation. It was great.
