I discovered this book from a really neat school counseling blog called The School Counselor Kind. I have been looking for a book to use with my third though fifth graders and this seems to be a perfect fit. At first I was worried it might be too young of a book for my upper grades but after seeing the activity posted on Kayla's blog, I knew it was a perfect fit. I liked the message of teaching kids to take the time to get yourself back together when things fall apart and to also think before you "blurt out" or "tell a secret." Two thumbs up!

A Nice Little Book on Being Present & Self Aware
In teaching mindfulness to children, I find that this book is a nice resource. It is simple, but can be used to engage children in a discussion of self-awareness and the importance of taking a moment to pay attention to feelings and emotions. It provides simple strategies that help children focus on the present in stressful situations.I include it on my peace education bibliography for preschool and elementary teachers.

Not impressed.
Not kid friendly. The art is too vague and odd. The text is uninteresting, and kids don't cant relate to it. I don't think it's just a 'style' issue with me either, that it's simply a matter of me not preferring this 'style' of art and storytelling. I found it just uninteresting, even odd, especially that it was aimed at kids. Kids do better with direct language and language and examples they can reference in their own life experience to relate what their reading in the story to their own lives. This did not have that. And that's just part of the problem. I would not recommend.

Wonderful and peaceful
Very few children's books don't a a plot with a start, problem, resolution with a teaching inside...This book is poetic, peaceful, really teaches part of mindfulness to children because the book itself is mindful..It is always a great joy ti read it.... Thank you

Bought for my grandson. His mother says he read it.

Disappointed
Only appropriate for a very young child, not for up to an 8 year old as described. Also, some incorrect math computations provided for young learners.

Amazing!
It was used as a circle time, in a mainstream Year 3 class and every single child (and adult) was engrossed (including the ones who are usually busy bees). The teacher asked at the end of the session, what everyone had learnt and everyone was able to give a reasonable answer. The book is so basic and simple, yet the message is quite deep and powerful, I love it!!

Think in better titled as for young children not kids but still ...
Interested in mindfulness to help myself and my children. Very simple story so was a bit babyish for the intended recipient. Think in better titled as for young children not kids but still gave us all reason to take a step back and be mindful of the world around us which is too often passing us by. Illustrations didn't inspire me I have to say but didnt detract from the value of the story/meditation.

Mindfulness book
We loved this book. The illustrations were quirky but delightful. It helped convey a difficult explanation into a simple and compelling message. An absolute delight.
