ShadowSH-HBTFT-BK Humbucker Frame Tuner, Black for Flat Top Guitars

This is a great product! It does everything as advertised. It does not affect the guitar tone. Great battery life so far. It is a chromatic tuner. It will handle any tuning, drop, eb, etc... I have used many tuners over the years and I enjoy using this one the most. I was worried about the lack of display, having only sharp, tune, & flat lights but the way they dim in relation to each other is all I need to dial in a tuning very quickly. There is no latency, meaning you don't have to give it a moment to think about it like I've found with other tuners. In a club or dark setting, the lights are bright but my 42 year old eyes can't make out the notes printed. I have the black one, the cream colored one might be easier to read. I do a lot of alternative tunings so I'll have to be careful and slowly drop and follow the lights. Again, the lights are very bright and there is a light designated for sharp notes. I installed a curved one on my Les Paul and a flat one on my SG. The curve fits the Les Paul body perfectly but be warned, the pickup ring is wider than the original on BOTH sides. You can get away with adjusting the pickguard on a Les Paul but on my SG, I had to shave about 1/32 (1cm) off the side of the pickguard. Also with the SG, getting the wire routed through the body was difficult. I drilled out the access hole into the control cavity. Removing the volume pot may have granted me enough room but I've made enough mods on this guitar so it wasn't a big deal. The Les Paul installation was a breeze. Unfortunately when activated, the guitar volume is not muted so I just pot down.

I installed this cool thing on a set of active EMG 81/85s which were installed with the plug-n-play harness. The instructions were for standard pots but I was able to figure it out and it works very well. Although with active pickups it will only work with the system on (jack plugged in).The tuner is actually very sensitive and much more accurate than other digital tuners. It is awesome!The only downside I had was that the mounting holes had to be opened a bit, with a drill bit. Ok a lot actually. At first I thought the holes were off just slightly because it wouldn't mount properly. Because the mounting screws were very tight in the frame I very carefully opened the holes a little at a time until the screws slipped in and out easily (but not so wide they went completely through). I'm not recommending this. I have some experience with drills and was prepared to buy another tuner if I screwed this up. I was careful, it came out nicely and mounted very easily.

I bought it out of curiosity, and it turned out really well so far. The only thing, is that it has to be soldered to the output of the volume pot of the neck pickup, as it is specified in the manual. This makes it uneffective when the pot is on 0, because there is no signal, so to tune silently you have to switch to bridge pickup while maintaining the neck volume pot engaged, or disconnect the guitar. Maybe I should try to solder it to the input of the pot instead, in theory it should work... Apart from that this gadget is very cool, user friendly, and tunes accurately.

It fits perfectly and is not noticeable, I've installed it on a little traveler guitar and it works perfectly. Since it is a chromatic tuner you can see the flats and sharps on the right side of the unit so it's easy to tune down a half or a whole step to whatever is needed. I've had it on for over a year and it's worked great!

I love this! I just wish they weren't so dang expensive. I have another guitar I want one for, but this item costs more than the guitar I want to put it on! (It's a $50 used off-brand guitar that looks and sounds great! I'm a sort-of beginner.)

Awesome. Ignore the manual where it tells you to hook up to the neck pickup potentiometer. The sensor goes under the bridge pickup, so it's only logical to hook up to the bridge pickup. Love it. Bright enough to burn out your retinas.
