Pretty, but projects are tough
The book was lovely, but the yarns called for are not cheap (look for cheaper but equal types of yarn). The project used arenβt for beginners, but itβs neat. Iβve done two so far-using equal but cheaper yarn and they came out just as soft and pretty.

4.5 stars: Fun, inspirational, and varied knits for various fandoms- or even those who just like a variety of knitting patterns!
This has some fabulous patterns!Various scarves and stuffies, of course, but my husband now longs for a vest made with the "Muggle Artifact" pattern- I figure I'll just knit an edging instead of the sleeves. The Dragon and Alien Pet are adorable, as are the Dire Wolf and of course Bunnicula, and the Alien Snow Beast balaclava is a hoot! And if you ever felt the need for variously-sided huge dice, here are patterns for 6, 8, and 20.All in all, they look like a lot of fun, and range from the practical and even elegant- like the Poison Ivy wrap- through the wild. They do not look to me like being especially quick projects, though, so I'd suggest a level of dedication before heading into one. Still- fun and inspiring!I didn't give it a full 5 stars because for several of the projects there was no plain photograph of how the item looked finished, just in use and generally in artistic poses.

I really wanted to love it. I really only got it for the dragonslayer shrug on the cover. I gave it to a 16 year old sci fi fan and she loved it and is planning on making things from it. I usually don't feel old, but sometimes things like this make me think I must be. If you have raverly I suggest looking at the project pictures there to decide if the book is for you. I did, and knew I wasn't in love with many of the patterns, but aforementioned 16 yr old was with me and went wild over them, so I got it for the pattern I liked and for her. I love fantasy and sci fi, but I suppose it just doesn't have a place in my knitting. Although I do plan on knitting some of the star wars stuff that was featured recently on ravelry.

Great Eclectic Collection and Photos of Patterns
Seen the box scarf with Neil Gaiman in Knitty, an online knitting mag. Looked up the pattern, led me to the book. I love the patterns in this book. Even if I never made a pattern from it, (I've already bought yarn for the Dragon Rider Shrug) it would still make me smile every time I looked through it. Not made anything, cannot speak to the quality of pattern writing. There are no pattern charts, only color work charts. Sizes for most patterns are small to large, with a few that go up to extra large. Lots of variety for all skill levels, and geeky interests.

Well written patterns
I'm never sure how I'll like pattern books I order online. It's a crapshoot if you can't hold the book in your hands and look at how the patterns are written. But a friend made one of the patterns in this book, and she spoke well of it, so I took my chances. The patterns are well written with easy to follow specifications and yarns that are both easily available AND affordable. Great work!

Fun for knitters AND non-knitting geeks!
I bought this mainly for the soup-for-the-geek-soul of it since several of my favourite fandoms are included, but it made me want to dig out my knitting needles and polish up on my skills. I really love the Blue Box and Baker Street scarves and the Poison Ivy wrap! The neatest thing about his book is that between the commentary, and the wonderfully fun photos by Kyle Cassidy, you don't need to know how to knit, or even be interested in knitting at all to find this book to be a worthy purchase.

Creative dreaming
I'm a beginner knitter so not sure how many things I can take on from this book, but it's worth it for the writing and the pictures. So much fun and inspires you to be more creative with your hobbies and your dreams.

So good even non-knitters love it.
This book is great, with a wealth of appealing and well-thought out patterns. It's also a perfect collectors piece, with all the models being well-known individuals like Neil Gaiman and George RR Martin.I originally bought this for a friend, but my partner took one glance at the contents and decreed we had to have a copy too - and he doesn't even knit.

New to knitting or tired of the same-old same-old? Well, this is for you!!! I'm a beginning knitter & there are several patterns that I can do now & lots that are inspiring. I'm also a beginning photographer & I find the photos challenging me to get out of my comfort zone. This would be a great grad gift or a way to get an early start on Christmas knitting. Glad I got it.
