Great value - 30 yr old frig working perfectly again
Correct replacement for our 30 yr. old Whirlpool frig. Started having problems with the frig running constantly and not cycling. Checked out YouTube vids for help and realized the compressor was working fine but the temp control was off. After I played with the control setting I realized it was that component (the thermostat) that controlled the cycling. I spent several days monkeying with the control to get it to cycle (while I was waiting for the part)Installation was a little more tricky than the instructional vid from PartsSelect; they walked me through the exact model of frig but neglected to tell one that the removal and replacement of the thermostat was complicated by the interference with the linkage to the freezer section dampner door. Removal and reinstallation of that linkage was hampered by the very tight conditions to release the bellcrank on the linkage. Got it done but added a good 15 minutes to the job.All came out well fortunately and the frig is performing up to spec again - 0 to ! deg. in the freezer and 36-38 deg. in the frig section. We left on an extended trip right after the repair and when we returned the frig was working just as I left it.Really appreciated the prompt delivery of the thermostat from Amazon and the price; most of the replacement units from state side vendors were much more expensive (PartsSelect was $92+). This unit was made in China and I believe that most others are also made there or somewhere abroad - not in the USA (after all, what is anymore?).Are we going to get a new frig? - yes, but that is currently a problem that anyone these days can attest to. If you want a stainless steel, French doors, ice in the door, etc. you're in good shape but if you want something else (we want a replacement side by side in white with no water dispenser) it's going to be special order and will take quite a while. We'll start that process but glad that our old frig is up to the job until we can get a new one. Thanks Amazon for having the part and a good price and prompt delivery to correct the problem. Thanks also to YouTube contributors for the troubleshooting guidelines and part replacement vids; after looking at them felt it was something I could tackle.

You must adjust the tiny screw on install to the correct temperature....
This did the trick on my old fridge, and kept my 25 year old fridge working for this quick and cheap fix. Much better than buying a new fridge, or the OEM part at 5 times the price. Just know that it comes adjusted to be very cold temps. There is a small screw to the right of the knob that you must turn clockwise to make it warmer. Adjust your knob to the middle of your number settings. Let the fridge cool down to your target temperature, then keep turning that screw clockwise until the fridge shuts off. Then turn it a little counter clockwise. Now let the fridge settle, and keep adjusting that screw until it is dead on the temp you want. Then put the knob back on and minor adjustments can be made from there, but by doing it this way your dead middle temp will be where you want it.

So far so good...
I had this same problem 5 years ago. I purchased this part (I’m sure from a different seller back then) and installed it at the time and it solved my problem of everything freezing on the fridge side of my side by side refrigerator. This time I did the same installation with new part and after monitoring the freezer and fridge with thermometers for a week I’m pretty comfortable that it’s working but I have one concern. I can’t turn the fridge control very much past the off position or the freezer control any further than “A” of A, B or C to keep the fridge at 38 to 49 degrees and freezer between -5 below or 5 above zero. That’s not how it was when it was new. I’m not sure if there is another issue in addition to the part I replaced. For now it’s working and is saving me $1200 for the cost of a new fridge. I don’t think my issue has anything to do with the quality of the part. It’s exactly like the one I purchased 5 years ago. And I received it promptly after ordering.

Cost effective repair
Easy to install with a caveat. This user is a retired appliance service tech. However the statement still stands if the installer is mechanically inclined and works carefully i.e. remove the old thermostat gently, preserving the bends of the sensor tube for matching up the new one. One more thing, adjust the prongs on the thermostat for a proper fit of the knob before installing as it may not be possible after. Our refrigerator has been running now for three days and is maintaining a proper temperature.

It looks harder to install than it is...
The Fox says "This is the part to fix when the fridge stops cooling and doesn't restart until you fiddle with the temperature control problem. It's super easy to replace, all you need is a nut driver to remove 1 screw to swap in the new part. Unplug the refrigerator from the wall before you start and take a picture of where the wires go to the new thermostat. Take care not to kink that long sensor tube and you'll be chillin' like a villain." =^.^= ©2023

The one I got must be faulty.
This device will not keep the refrigerator at a constant temperature. It keeps getting way too cold and freezing items no matter how warm I turn it. Sometimes it will not cut in the compressor and the food gets too warm so I have to turn it to Off then back to cool before the compressor cuts in. I keep thermometers in both the refrigerator an the freezer and cannot achieve a balance of freezing in the freezer part and cool (between 38 and 40 degrees) in the refrigerator. The refrigerator always goes to 30 degrees or less (sometimes down to 25) no matter where I set the thermostat dial. When it fails to cut in the items in the freezer start to thaw. I Have a Whirlpool refrigerator that needs the WP2198202 Thermostat and this one is supposed to be the direct replacement, Guess I need to Buy from a different manufacturer.
