This wood carving v-gouge tool has made the job of carving my basswood so much easier!! It is a very well made tool with a smooth and durable wooden handle. The gouge is perfectly sharp and makes carving much faster. The size fits really well in my hand (I’m a 60 year-old woman) and was a good value for the money.

I’m just getting into carving just so you know, I’m no expert. However, right out of the box, this v tool performs perfectly. I’m carving a floral themed background for an alter. I know, how many people need an alter. It’s for an assisted living facility’s quiet/meditation room. I needed a small v-tool to outline the petals and leaves. I have never heard of this brand but this is a quality tool and came “ready to use” sharp.

Given this particular project included chiseling thin details in fish fins and scales out of live oak, I was quite nervous about this very refined chisel remaining sharp, and firmly attached to the handle. I purchased this to complete a 60" full body Tarpon fish. Now that the piece is finished, I very happy to recommend this tool to carvers & wood workers. I also had to carve small rectangular mortise openings to install the fish fins, and which this tool easily enabled. I was using both a rubber mallet and a hard wood mallet- the chisel worked well with both- extremely functional, great tool for the money.

I had to return this chisel. The quality was horrible. The wooden handle with four flattened sides was not lined up with the metal blade. You could not hold the handle in a comfortable position and have the blade in a position to use. The chisel was also not sharp. I expect low quality from cheap foreign made tools, but at this price point, I expected better quality. Apparently, getting tools made in Ukraine adds to the cost, but not the quality.

Great quality and really sharp. Does a clean cut.

Bought one. The ferrule has already dropped off before opening the package. Returned.

As I've said, in other things, the company that makes this brand of tool goes above and Beyond excellence I've been carving for 60 years and I've never found a tool that stays sharp is so easy to maintain. I won't buy anything else but Beavercraft Carving tools. The things in the picture are what I carve some more intricate
