A re-think of a simple item
I have an extensive collection of all-things coffee. A knock box is often the item that gets the least attention. This model replaces the traditional bar with a knock platform. It works better than fancy models that sell for 4 times the price. At first glance, it is lightweight; yet, it is surprisingly sturdy. The coffee puck goes directly into the box, with no mess outside of it.

Awesome and Inexpensive!
Great knock box. It is stable and quiet. It is easy to clean. The biggest concern you will have is whether to put it next to the kitchen sink or next to the espresso machine. Decisions!

Almost Perfect
I took a chance on this knock box because of the price. I was pleasantly surprised to see how wonderfully it works. The pucks drop out with just a gentle tap on the rubber pad. It seems so simple but works so well. There are two changes that would make this product perfect in my opinion. first make it an inch or two deeper and wider. I use this in a home setting only, but I find that after about 4 shots the pucks are piling up so high that it interferes with your ability to do more than that in a row without emptying the bucket. Also, there is not enough space to wipe out the portafilter without occasionally getting grounds falling on my countertop due to the very small diameter of the opening. The last thing is to add a heavier rubber disc in the opening under this knock box. That would give this product a much more professional feel and prevent is from moving when you are knocking out your pucks. If they did both of those things this would be a perfect knock box and far superior to other products currently available and certainly worth paying a bit more for. IMO>

Excellent & Simple
I had a standard Grindenstein knock box (not the "big") for the past 10+ years. I noticed it had developed a crack down one side (going directly down from where the knock bar goes through the sides), so it was time for a replacement. While I was happy with it in general, having the bar in the middle meant as it was close to full I would shake it to create more space in the back where you want the puck to drop. After looking at a variety of options (and understanding that the space on my counter that I have dedicated for the knock box is small), I chose this homeffect box. IMO, it's a superior product, for around the same price (actually even more reasonable, about $5 less at the time of writing this). Some comparisons:- Size: The Grinden holds ~8 pucks. This one holds at least a couple more.- Loudness: The Grinden has a fairly thick rubberized bar that really dampens noise. This has a very thin rubberized surface on the ledge and is noticeably louder, though I don't mind.- Cleaning: The Grinden has nooks and crannies but is easy to wash. This is even easier. Wide open cavity and simple surface.- Cleanliness: The Grinden definitely seems to create more mess. While this isn't perfect, the simple ledge with pucks intended to go in one direction definitely has less grind spray.Very satisfied with this purchase. I was happy with the Grindenstein but I'm happier with this one.

It’s a little big and I’m not a fan of hard plastic material
Simple and effective design but the material of the box could have been improved to a more durable and softer material to absorb the impact better. The box is made of HARD plastic. If being knocked on often everyday, I can se that it will crack for sure under a thin rubber edge cushion. The only material that can absorb the shock or physical impact the best is rubber or silicone...and NEVER hard plastic, ceramic, metal, or wood. That goes for the noise minimizing as well. I tried knocking my portafilter on the small thin rubber/silicone cushion of this knock box and it was still loud, even with the rubber cushion ring on the outer bottom of the box, just like I was knocking on the edge of the plastic trash can. I do not pack my portafilter tightly so only need one or two knocks at the most for the puck of coffee to come out. Unless the box already has some wasted coffee, the puck screen dropped loudly on the bottom when the box is empty. The size of the box is also big for me. I plan on emptying the knock box everyday as I don’t want the coffee waste sit in it without a lid for few days on the kitchen counter.A knock box is a must-have item if you use a puck screen for your portafilter, as you don’t want the screen to fall in the trash can when emptying the portafilter, or try to get it out using your fingers. Other than that, you don't really need a noisy knock box to clutter your countertop. Or just look for a knock box that is made of softer material. It will last longer that way with all the knocking and also eliminate the noise for real. The hunt for a good compact knock box is still on for me.
