Vision get a makeover in the ultimate Vision story.
Vision have always been a fan favorite ever since his debut in "Avengers #57" and the character was played by Paul Bettany in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But now in this ultimate Vision story, Vision get a new makeover. It opens where Scarlet Witch discovers that her husband Vision was missing only to find out he was kidnapped by the Russians. So the West Coast Avengers went to rescue him only to find him dismantle. However, Hank Pym put him back together with a new look only he lost his human emotions. Of course, U.S. Agent joins the team & Tigra is going through her feline drama of her own. Wonder Man reveals to Wasp that he's in love with Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye & Mockingbird's are on the rocks. The Great Lakes Avengers make their debut in "West Coast Avengers #46". Of course Captain America & She-Hulk makes a guest appearance in "Avengers West Coast #47-49" where Scarlet Witch was possessed by an ancient evil. The story concludes in "Avengers West Coast #50" where the original Human Torch returns from the dead and Iron Man (in his Neo Classic armor) returns to the West Coast Avengers.Great Vision story for all die hard Avengers fans.

Not a Standalone Graphic Novel
What people need to know before purchasing this book is that while it allegedly inspired the upcoming WandaVision series on Disney+, this is not a standalone story with a beginning, middle and end. It is filled with references to previous storylines, and it has many, many subplots (most of which are not resolved here). It also gets mired in the history of a lesser known Marvel hero, with pages of text-heavy, convoluted material that is difficult to parse for a casual fan.The artwork is fine. It's dated, but it has a retro vibe to it that is kind of fun. The writing is corny by today's standards, and there are a few typos to be found, which is disheartening. However, at its core, this is a story about Scarlet Witch and her love for the Vision. Byrne does a good job illustrating how far she will go to save her husband, and why their strange romance is one of the most charming and tragic stories in Marvel history.Overall, Vision Quest is more frustrating than satisfying, but for fans of Scarlet Witch and Vision, it generally succeeds in its depiction of their relationship.Further reading? A decent run.
It's amazing how little attention I paid to John Byrne's career, after following his FF for a year or two, considering how much I liked and collected ALL his seventies stuff.I guess I thought that he got out of comics just because I did, which I know sounds silly. And not every Byrne project appeals to me, but I'd heard good things about his run on WCA.At any rate, this 1989 run was new to me, and I liked it.. most of it, particularly the D-list "Great Lakes Avengers," and the sinister forces behind the Scarlet Witch's evil transformation (again?).Looking forward to reading the next collection, catching up thirty years late.

A Good Read
A real quick and enjoyable read. I’m kind of mad that I did not purchase the Epic Collection containing these issues as I was left wanting to know more.

West Coast Avengers was my favorite as a kid
West Coast Avengers was my favorite as a kid. This was nice to go back and see, but as much as I like Byrne's art, his story telling is not very good. Hawkeye is very underused in this arc. Byrne brings in the heroes he prefers, and elevated Hank Pym to leader, unofficially. I preferred the Visions new look, but hated US Agent in this. It's a decent arc, but doesn't reinvent the wheel.

Interesting stories with some good art, but you can see Byrne starting to lose it from panel to panel. I'd say it's important if you're an "Avengers" fan, but the events in these stories have been retconned several times.
