A solid magical girl outting, with an over the top B-movie edge to it
I think it's key to remember that, that this is very clearly over the top on purpose. Transformation sequence takes 6 pages, the MG in questions full name is God Shinning Moonlight Howling Moon, and the enemy are 6 Lovecraftian style ultra powerful gods complete with grab-y tentacles. Add on that it's made by the artist of High School Of The Dead and the director of Metal Gear Rising Revengence and I think it's confrimed in that aspectAs such the things a great laugh, the melodrama, the intense dialouge, the huge battle scene, like an ecchi popcorn flick.Do be aware of that though, a lot of fan service in weird places. In fact when an MG transforms her chest triples in size, with the only explaination as to why basically being "well, you're a magical girl now". So even if it is ironic it's still there. Now it's a bit short for that 14$ price tag, be aware of that. It's not flawless either even considering it's angle. But I think if you go into this knowing what it is, and assuming that IS what they're going for, I do think fans of the genre will enjoy it

Not your average magical girl manga
Saw the other 2 reviews for this and decided to give it a try. Story is compelling with a good switch of which side is the villain. Definitely can't wait for the next volume! Although as a previous reviewer said, it's not readily apparent that there IS a second volume. For those of you looking to buy this for ecchi/ hentai content, it's very minimal in this volume. For those looking for a good and different take on a magical girl story (and you don't mind those few pages that give it the adult rating) this is worth a read!Edit 12/5/20: just saw listing here for volume 2, so this isn't a "one and done"!

Art is amazing
If you like high school dxd and triage x. Then you will like this book. The art is amazing as always.

Utter crap
I could only wish for the time I wasted on this book to come back to me. Storyline's a farce. Plot's to be scoffed at. Artwork's okay, at best. Garbage.

A very interesting take on the genre
Takes the dynamic of the story and flips it on its head, if you're not familiar with magical girl genre or not. Characters are interesting and I'm looking forward to volume 2 next year.

This was the one gift I have given my daughter that made her happiest in quite some time.
I bought this as a gift for my 19 year old dughter and she loved it so much she texted me 30 minutes I got the delivered email to tell me she read half of the book already. Part of that text was to ask me that if I knew it was by the sam person as Trinity Seven as that is apparently one of her favorite books. I did not, that was just a happy accident. I bought it for her just based on the description which, according to her, was dead on. She plans on collecting the series. Just to add a disclaimer, I mostly go for older anime/manga so all my purchases for her are blind relying on descriptions and ratings.

Awesome
Great volume with the usual amazing art from Shōji Satō. I really hope there is a volume 2. I can’t seem to find any information on that.

If you liked Trinity 7 and Triage X you'll love this
If you've ever read anything by Kenji Saito (Trinity 7) or Shouji Sato (Triage X/High School of the Dead(art)) You'll probably have a good idea of the sort of thing to expect when they write a magical girl manga together. With lots of action, interesting characters and set up along with lots of "plot" Howling Moon doesn't disappoint and it looks like the story will have plenty of depth going forward too. It's not going to be for everybody, but if you enjoyed any of either Saito or Sato's previous manga or the anime adaptions of them then this will be right up your street.
