Thick rattan, tightly woven. Great for raising bread!
Just the right fit for breads made in the oblong superstone covered baker. I line this with parchment paper and when the dough has risen, I transfer the whole thing to the baker, and place in the preheated oven. This basket fits perfectly into my Brod and Taylor bread proofing machine. (The best way to raise bread in the winter!) The covered baker is a bit too long to fit. You can also liberally dust this basket with flour and put your dough in as is. Makes nice artisan design on the bread as it raises. Then turn it onto a baking sheet to bake. Very good quality basket with thick, tightly woven rattan. Well worth the price!

Glad I got this
This rustic proofing basket looks even better out of the box than in the stock photo here, color is lighter/creamier than pictured. Pretty sturdy for what it is and a nice feel in the hand. Great shape for sandwich loaves, though perhaps a tad bit short for the Sasafras SuperStone Covered Baker for which I'm sure most purchase it. I don't bother to flour mine, just use parchment paper to make it easier to transfer the risen dough and the finished loaf into and out of the baker. Kinda defeats a nice feature of the banneton, which would be to leave distinctly decorative rings around the bread, but I'm lazy.

Wrong size. Bad Amazon recommendation.
This was recommended to buy with the Superstone bread baking pan. There is no way the proofing basket is the same shape and size of the Superstone pan.

Great Proofing basket!
This is a very useful, straightforward, no-nonsense proofing basket! Use it dusted with flour te give the tell-tale line design to your dough or line with cloth. Either way, a handy tool.

Not perfect match for the Superstone oblong baker
The quality of the basket is good, no splinters etc. But like reviewers commented, I ordered it as it was suggested to pair with the Superstone clay baker and was disappointed that the proofed dough did not entirely fill the baker when turned into it. Can anyone tell me if another proofing basket would be a better fit?

A little cleanup/prep is needed initially but works as expected!
I was looking for something to hold the nice soft dough through the final proof in a shape other than the round blob that I have been doing (not that there's anything wrong with that) and this fit the bill. When the product first arrived I inspected it closely and found that while in general the workmanship was decent more care could have been taken to smooth out the wood. More specifically, there were numerous wood fibres that were sticking out a bit throughout the inside surfaces. Fearing that some of these may find their way to the bread, I proceeded to pluck them all out. Took me about 15min and the outcome I've collected and photographed (attached, with a standard shot glass for scale). It's not the end of the world and none of them are sharp but still I expected more. At least the few metal nails holding the ends of the wood sticks (as they form around a mold to the desired final shape) were all recessed and not sticking out.Now come the actual time to use this thing. I dusted it liberally with flour to coat all the inside surfaces and lightly tapped it to get the excess out. Then I placed my kneaded and floured relatively wet dough (70% hydration) to its bed and put the blanket on. An hour later the oven is ready and I dumped the rested dough onto cornmeal'ed pizza peel and it came right out, no sticking at all. Slashed and into the oven she goes. I shaked the banneton of "spent" flour and dusted some fresh ones, let it sit for a few hours to dry and then into a ziploc she goes. Bread came out beautifully - the combination of the banneton and couche really did absorbed some moisture away from the surface making a really nice crust. In short, I would buy from this company again in the future and hopefully I won't have to spend time to clean out their product.July 2016 update:Still happy with the product - have found that I have had to increase the "drying time" after proofing longer to get rid of excess moisture sometimes. This is possibly due to we're in spring/summer now and I no longer need forced air heating which makes air alot drier.

Nice Basket
I really liked this basket. I have another one is similar dimension and this one creates a nicer shaped loaf.

Defnitely NOT what I was hoping for...
After having this item for about a month or so and putting 3 loaves of bread in it to rise, the top ring of the rattan has already cracked. Don't waste your money!
