Hictop D3 Hero IDEX
PackagingPackaging of the D3 Hero was excellent. Everything was secured and unable to move. Received without damage.AssemblyAssembly was easy. Took us about 30-45 minutes to assemble. Followed YouTube video step by step. All the setup documentation is on the SD card so if you want paper you will need to print out prior to assembly. Leveling the bed was easy. Took only a few minutes the larger leveling knobs are a plus.Start upAgain all documentation is on the SD card. You can download it from the Hictop website and review and print prior to receiving the printer. The SD card has many already sliced G Code examples and the .stl files to try to get the printer running. All the files show the dual extrusion strengths of the printer. *UseI used the tape on the print bed to start since I was not familiar printing on glass. I have since moved to glue stick and have tried a few with just clean glass. Once I work on my first layer settings worked out I will print on the clean glass.QualityQuality of the printer is very good. It’s very solid and does not shake or rock. I leveled it when I set it up and have not readjusted it since. That’s maybe 15 small prints. I am going to start printing some of the bigger projects I have.ValueThis printer is a great value considering it’s an IDEX and has a large build area. It comes complete with everything you need to make a print. Tools, Filament, Cutters, Tape, Print files, everything. During setup/startup I never used any of my stuff that I already have. Running and setting up maybe a little intimidating to a new user but you can run as a single filament until you get comfortable. I am happy with my purchase and will update as I print more stuff.

Decent printer. Buy It cheaper directly from tenlog though.
Occasional software glitches that don't happen with other printers. Like extruders going the wrong way during printing. Always fixed with a simple reboot. Stepper motors are near silent. But fans are incredibly loud. Mostly the 12v power supply is what is causing the noise. A ton of fan noise and when the printer is idle there's loud transformer whine. I turn mine off when not in use because it's annoying. The posting says genuine mean well power supply but that's a lie. It's another chinese knockoff power supply in my unit.Print quality is better than expected for a printer that uses 2020 instead of linear rail or rods. Bridging also works well on this system.Very easy to assemble. No tramming needed for me.Idex functionality works but it really lengthens your print times because it takes like 10-15 seconds to switch between print heads. Also it tried to nozzle wipe between switches but it doesn't come with nozzle wipers.Update: the second extruder no longer works. Sometimes it moves, sometimes it doesnt. This is the last time I order a cheap prebuilt.

Should have been a great 3D printer but flawed execution made me send it back!
I really wanted to love this printer. I was looking for a dual extruder printer after having become very comfortable with my Creality Ender 5. The Hictop D3 Hero arrived quickly and was well packed. Assembly was pretty simple and I was looking forward to some nice prints. I levelled the bed, adjusted the second extruder to match the first and prepared to print the two color dragon from the supplied SD card. Unfortunately the Hictop printer would not read the card. I solved this by copying the files from the card onto my computer, reformatted the SD card and copied the files back. The card could then be read and the sample dragon printed out beautifully.I then tried to print a 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive adapter. This should have been simple, it was a large, flat object with good adhesion potential. Unfortunately it got knocked off shortly into the print. This happened for the next few prints as well.I rechecked the bed level for both extruders, and tried again. No luck. Suspecting the bed, I got my straightedge out and discovered the bed was warped badly in the front right corner. I sent an email to hictop_usa support hoping they would resolve the issue. I tried adjusting the clamps that held down the glass bed so that they minimized the warp so that I could continue testing and was able to print objects that weren't too large.I then set up an Octoprint server so I wouldn't have to keep flipping SD cards in and out of the machine. I have an Octoprint server set up on my Creality Ender 5 and it is awesome, especially using The Spaghettie Detective plugin.I had a bit of trouble getting the Octoprint server to connect to the Hictop. I had to run Octoprint in safe mode to reliably connect. I tried several prints but was never able to successfully print from Octoprint. The printer would stop at some random point in the print every time. I again emailed Hictop about the problem, hoping for resolution.I then tried the two color Panda print again, this time printing from the SD card since there appeared to be a severe communications issue when printing via Octoprint. The print started out nicely, but I noticed after a few hours that there was a huge layer shift that started about half way up the print. The shift was about a full inch (see the photo) .I cancelled the ruined print and gave up on the Hictop, still not having heard a reply to either of my emails.I began the return with Amazon (Yay, Amazon and your return policy!) Took the printer apart, packed it back up in the original packaging and returned it.I had high hopes for the printer, but they weren't matched by the product. To be honest, I know there are some people on the Hictop Facebook forum who are getting great results and reliable prints, but with the lack of support response I got, I was not going to take the chance of blowing through my return window with Amazon. It's been another week and still no reply from Hictop Support to my original requests for support. I had hoped that perhaps they would respond to my issues and maybe I would try another Hictop D3 Hero, but I think I will be more satisfied with another Ender 5. I know their support (Comgrow) is good.

high quality steel construction, few minor print quality issues, prints are real good at 0.1 mm.
This D3 Hero3d printer 2020 model.*******************************************A metal main base with a sliding large heated bed and (11.8 inch sq and maybe around 13 inch height ) with a thick glass and large knobs with large springs to manual adjust the bed height, so it has no auto bed height sensor function. A touch screen interface with a large color UI that's very easy to understand and use, 3 levels of menus, usb and flash ports. The upper steel assembly, holds the dual extruders weight, has no vibrations. The wires and XYZ connectors are labeled and numbered for easy hookups and the motor cables are 9 pin serial connectors. The Printer has smooth movements, no shaking or vibrations yet.Quick Assembly was about 30 mins, simple steps to follow, all the hardware arrived in working order and was flashed with the latest firmware. pdf instructions and documents. on flash drive. Also there was basic kit of tools, few allen wrenches , small screw driver set, sharp metal print lifter, plastic lock tie downs, flash drive containing pdf assembly help docs , cura program , d3 profiles, 3d files, gcode test print and 3 foot USB cable.I am still dialing in the dual print settings on cura to get good quality prints, I am using Simply3d on my other 2 3d printers, so I plan on setting this printer up on simply3d also asap. It is simply the best 3d printing software in my opinion and I have tried them all over the years. Cura looks to have improved allot since the last time I used it for free software it is ok. but its still missing all the simply3d pay features from years ago still. It prints real good at 0.1 mm on a single extruder with PLA, on the default Hictop D3 setting/profile.but not on the dual extruder the default settings have surface heat damage and stringing.FYI: So I contacted support and requested some help , they replied after one day "Sorry for the problem.I suggest you use cura. And to solve the string problem has three ways.First, the actual printing temperature is about 5 degrees lower than the normal printing temperature. Second, increase the retreat length and retreat speed. The recommended length is 6mm and the speed is 60. Third, increase the heat dissipation of the nozzle by the fan.And please adjust the backlash speed and backlash distance in the slicing software.Hope it can help you. " So they provided some useful and helpful advice and so that was ok for there support, but I would have expected this printer to print real good right out of the box and on dual mode as that its main selling point!!!, so they should have dialed in all the settings before shipping it out. or at least put this tweaking settings information in the help debug pdf's on the flash drive. Again not a deal breaker.PLUS about the 3d printerI like the auto feed load and unload feature, it extrudes the excess plastic out first then feeds it out. this should prevent allot of jams from switching materials.MinusHeated bed is very slow to heat up for ABS temps 70 to 100 on glass It does not have auto level bed sensor, my old printer from 2013 had a auto bed level, it didn't work great but it was there in 2013. So for a 2020 model at this price I was expecting one, its not deal breaker, so maybe one can be added on later.I can recommend this printer.

Decent printer, poor support
This is my first 3d printer and I chose to get this one based on the dual extruder and the decent reviews I had found. The printer arrived and was very well packed, super solid. it was easy to set up and get up and running. The test print worked fine to dial in the dual extrusion.Unfortunately, when I started to print my own things I had big issues with getting good adhesion across the bed and in getting the temperature of the hot end beyond 190 F when printing. After many, many hours of trials with various adhesives and different slicer settings. I finally decided to get a straight edge and see how flat the bed was. It turns out that, when I put the bed on the printer and level the corners as normal, the bed takes on the rough shape of a saddle. Higher than the middle on two corners and lower than the middle in the other two corners. When I take the bed off the printer completely, it is dead flat. The variation from highest to lowest is approximately .3mm which means when the corners print correctly the head crashes into the middle of the bed and floats in other areas.I have sent two emails to the hictop support email with zero response which is very depressing. I think this printer could be really good but it is not very usable at the moment.

Horrible quality!!!! payed for a new unit ...built with second hand parts.
Bought this back in February 2020, when it arrived the power supply was rattling in the enclosure ...only a single screw was used to secure it in place. Build plate is warped from the factory, main board crapped out, got in contact with them and was asked to remove it, and send them pics of it. Look at the images and tell me that's a new board...they infact installed a used board and sold the unit as new. They agreed to send me a new board, when the board arrived ..guess what was in the box...another used main board.....I have had it with these people. The machine is still within the warranty period and this is how they treat their customers.....Stay Away from these guys!!!!

A Very Capable Printer
Pros:Easy to assembleGreat print qualityDual Extrusion, mirror and duplicate modeCons:Glass BedSoftwareX Belt tensionAfter owning this machine for just about a month now, and having run several Kgs of PLA and TPU through it, I feel like I can finally assess this product properly; lets start with set-up; the printer arrived almost 5 days early which was a wonderful surprise and the packaging is great, everything was secure and they use an adequate amount of packing material to ensue nothing gets jostled during shipping. The set-up was very easy, consisting of mounting the gantry, securing the wires to the proper spots, and then you're off to the races! This is where my only gripes exist with the machine, while the glass bed is adequate for most, I went ahead and upgraded to a Creality CR-10S 310x310x4mm bed to promote better bed adhesion without the need for additives ; my second gripe is concerning the software, as far as I can tell, the only slicer the company offers a ready made profile for is Cura, which is a kick in the pants for anyone who has paid for simplify3d (I am aware that there are google docs pertaining to setting the printer up on simplify, I just can't be bothered). Lastly, after 2 prints failed due to layer shifting, I realized that belt tension was not only non-adjustable, but quite loose, a simple (short term) solution will see you zap strap the belts @ the connection point to the extruder assembly and that will solve most of your issues WRT layer shifting. (email me @ [email protected] for the X Belt Spacer, I will also upload it to thingiverse)Other than those minor issues, the printer is a capable machine for multi-material; multi-colour printing and after some minor adjustment to the E1 and E2 offsets for which you can find instructions on the provided USB and on the manufacturers website, you will be amazed by the quality of prints.
