I hate this grip but my wife loves it.
As the title states. I hate this particular grip but my wife loves it. Since it was purchased for her pistol we kept it. The things that I don't like about this grip have nothing to do with build quality or fit and finish. Those are top notch so I won't ding them on that. The grip came with shim tape but it was not needed because it fit like a glove, was easy to install and had no fitment gaps to speak of. My wife wanted the smooth grip with no texture. Let me say that while it is beautiful. It is also slippery as all heck. I wouldn't trust this not to slip out of my hand if drawing under stress. Especially if my hands were wet. But again I won't ding the manufacturer because of an aesthetic choice made by my wife. Especially since they make textured versions of this grip with a choice of two textures. Which I am sure would solve this issue. The one real issue which I do have and took off a star for is kind of hard to describe. Due to the shape of the grip. When I draw it. It falls naturally into my hand in one of two places. The first of which points and shoots naturally. The second of which does not and requires me to adjust my grip while aiming before I can shoot it. I think that enough practice with it would eventually eliminate the problem but I'm not going to put in that much time on a gun that I don't carry. Overall I think that this would be good grip if you ordered the textured version. It could be a great grip with a little work on the upper part of the grip. Definitely not a bad grip. This is a really good option if you are looking to replace the stock grip with one just a little longer to get another finger on it.

Gorgeous, great materials, excellent craftsmanship and made in USA.
I was hoping that the Altamont - S&W J Round Revolver Grips would not meet up to my expectations. I had recently purchased an excellent rubber grip replacement, but the Altamont grip looked stunning in the pics and I gave me a feeling that it would fit like a glove....it did. The most difficult thing about installing the grips was changing out the grip pin, where the original pin may be too long (or wide, depending on how you look at it). I already replaced the original pin with my previous rubber grip replacement. Fit and finish were excellent and perfect and you could barely tell that it was installed in two halves. The wood grain and carving are practically mirrored on both sides which leads me to believe that it was crafted from the same chunk of wood. Absolutely gorgeous...if you can use those words to describe a grip. Now for the negatives, which don't bother me but are worth mentioning. Firstly, although it fits your hand like a glove, it is significantly thicker than the original S&W plate grips. When emptying spent rounds, one of the shell casings may get snagged on the grip and take a little giggling to get out. This also probably means that it may interfere with certain speed loaders. Secondly, when using a Blade-Tech Klipt j-frame holster, the edge of the grips by the trigger guard expands the holster and makes things not as tight. I will probably grind down the plastic edge of the holster to make it fit a little better and stay tighter. In closing, the negatives had more to do with deciding to get thicker form fitting grips rather than any fault of the design or manufacturer. The plain grips that I purchased were gorgeous. The rosewood was as high quality as the craftsmanship. This product makes "Made in USA" mean something. I would absolutely recommend.

Fits perfectly
I ordered this set to replace the rubber oem grip on a S&W mod 442 revolver. I’m partial to the look and feel of wood and am not disappointed in the least. The fit is spot on and the finish is beautiful. These stocks are larger than the factory rubber thus making it easier to control my shots with this small firearm. I’m extremely pleased with this purchase.

Fantastic grips. They feel great in the hand and are only about 3/4" longer with much more control!
As usual Altamont grips always look gorgeous. I have this on a 360PD (huge 357 recoil in a 11oz gun). I typically run 38's in it, but this is awesome for its ability to keep your hands positioned on the grips in a VERY snappy recoiling gun. These grips are rugged and have 2 locator pins that keep them aligned. If you have pretty much any J-Frame this is the grip for you!

NOTHING like the picture!
Grips arrived with PAINTED bright red lines (circles) all over. Otherwise the finish is a flat black with a painted look. NO grain visible, rosewood or otherwise. Hideous and cheap looking. Question is do I try again with Altamont, or buy from another vendor? Annoying waste of time.

Very Poor Fit. Great look.
Grips look great. But when installing them on my S&W 638 the fit was poor. Had to add lots of gorilla tape as a shim to my revolver frame for it to fit properly. Pretty disappointed. Also when contacting ALTAMONT they said they don’t sell on Amazon and that this is a 3rd party seller. So be advised…
