RiedelSommeliers Sauternes

These glasses are great. When we tried these for the first time, we poured 2005 Rieusec and tated it from these glasses and out of a traditional chardonay glass. The wine out of the Sauterne glass was better. The nose was better and you did pick up more nuance from the wine. Sauturnes aren't cheap, and niether are these glasses, but you will get even more from them with these glasses.

I've broken several of these while *carefully* hand-washing -- it is very easy to do. On the other hand, they are so delicate and gorgeous that drinking from them is a truly special event. The photo doesn't really do the bowl shape justice -- you know you are holding a special glass when you hold one of these. They are very lightweight and elegant, and the glass bowl slopes to an almost impossibly thin rim. The shape is beautiful. But be prepared to buy extras and break one from time to time. On occasion I have considered running these out and replacing with a different brand of sauternes/dessert glass(Schott Z., Orrefors)solely to reduce the inevitable replacement cost. But the other choices, while potentially sturdier, are noticeably less desirable in shape and bowl delicacy. In my view, the frailty is a large part of the beauty of dessert wine glasses.

These glasses are reputed to produce from a sauternes all of the characteristics that make a great sauterns the sensual pleasure that it is. They work. Whether or not you are experienced and can deconstruct a wine from the glass or whether you just appreciate a great sauternes, these glasses do enhance the experience. Sufficiently to just justify the price? Difficult to say. But I recommend them. Be warned: they break very, very easily. So buy more than you need and expect attrition. If that's a burden, then buy a competitor.

Very nice glass but relatively expensive. For the occasional Sauternes drinker this glass may not make enough of a difference to merit a purchase. However in an absolute sense, the glass is very beautiful and it does offer a slight improvement in how Sauternes is perceived via aroma and flavor, at least to my palate.

Una bella copa, hecha a mano. Especializada para vinos Sauternes, y fue un regalo para mi esposa que disfruta de este vino. Lamentablemente parece que está discontinuada, por lo que es muy difícil de hallar, y eso eleva mucho su precio. Obtuve las últimas dos de Amazon México a buen precio.
