Fun original design and first train for me!
This is my first train so of course it was fun and 5 stars! Lots of small pieces and a little difficult at times but definitely very doable! About 7 1/4 inches in length.

A nice little challenge with a nice reward. The detail put into it is just wow.

Honey I shrunk the train!
The item arrives in an envelope smaller than a greeting card. Getting over that surprise and upon opening you find several sheets of thin flexible metal with many, many small parts to be broken out of the sheet and assembled via a fairly complex instruction diagram. The components appear to be quality made, they just are really small. I didn't see the usual step by step instructions I'm used to with models, but a detailed schematic showing where the parts go. Can this be done? I'm sure it can, but it would take an extreme amount of patience and many of these parts are so small I see them easily getting damaged when removing or easily lost. Some of the tiny parts are less than a 1/4 in diameter or a few mm's wide and there are many of them, some of these small parts also have bendable tabs. This would be beyond my patience level and I showed my teen son and he thought the same thing and he loves trains. The model would be a nice challenge for someone who wanted to undertake it, and I (now) realize the dimensions are listed in the Amazon description, but the working sheets are still incredibly small with all the parts jammed onto each sheet. I feel like for the price the working sheets could be at least 25-50% bigger. Sheet metal isn't expensive and I think this model would be a more pleasing experience if the parts and finished train were bigger. Keep in mind according to the description the finished product is about 7-8 inches long and that's two cars together, the cars themselves are just a little over an inch wide with dozens or perhaps hundreds of parts. Just wasn't for us but it might be for you if you like working in the micro realm.

This is not a set for beginners or the impatient, but it is a very cool
Let me start off by saying this probably going to make a bad gift for anyone who hasn’t done LOTS of metal earth sets already. If you are someone new to the metal earth hobby, a train may very well be the last place to start. BRIDGES are where you start with this hobby. Then buildings. Then slightly more complicated buildings. Then vehicles and other stuff. If you want something from the Wild West series, go with the little revolver they’ve got. I would like to say that this is one of the best designed metal earth sets to date with a TON of detail, but this thing is tricky, and frankly overly detailed. Of all the metal earth sets I’ve done, this one is hands down the most difficult by a sizable margin. Up until this point, the Hogwarts express was holding in first place for the most difficult set I’ve ever done, but this thing blew it out of the water. There are just so many tiny pieces, and I mean TINY. There were so many times that I, a person who loves miniature details, thought “this detail is unnecessary.” It also suffers a lot from having black pieces that are super tiny, so it’s often hard to see what you’re doing, more so then any other set I’ve done.

Too small for adult hands to be able to manipulate. Husband gave up on it before he got a good start.

What a beauty this model is. A lot of round and tiny parts to mitigate, but it's totally worth the effort. A couple of things to keep in mind before assembling: first, there are no spare parts except the two for the wheel brakes, which means that extra care needs to be taken handling those; second, about half of the parts are pitch black, so make sure that you have proper lighting set up; finally, there was a single error in the instructions - at least in my kit - where the wrong side was shown as engraved for a specific part on the back of the cab, forcing me to retrace quite a bit. All in all, if you follow the usual Metal Earth ways and tips, you'll be fully rewarded. Definite thumbs up for this one!

Am in the process of making it, and getting frustrated. Parts are so small, and some are difficult to hold with tweezers. Parts are so tiny; difficult to fit and secure. Probably would give it 3 if it was a bit bigger, and a 4, or even five, if model was at a scale of say 1/200. The metal is good quality, and the etchings are great.

was disappointed when i saw it arrive in a small envelope - my fault i did not read the size properly,.this is way to small for me -will not even try this -will find someone ( like a jeweler or watch maker ..LOL ) way more advanced than i am to buy it
