Solid pour over coffee maker
The media could not be loaded. EDIT after 3 months of ownership, We are still liking this coffee maker, and use it every day. It's fabulous in the camper on mornings when we can hang out with a real ceramic mug and enjoy our coffee. One thing we discovered is that the little hole in the bottom of the funnel is *not* at the bottom, it's slightly up one side. This means that when the coffee stops dripping, there is still a couple ounces of coffee left inside. Pick up the funnel and tilt it toward the hole, then shake a couple of times. (See video.)ORIGINAL REVIEW: We've been doing pour over coffee for years, grinding our beans every morning. At home we used the Melita glass pour over pot, which worked just fine. But we couldn't take it in our camper because, you know, glass. So I got this to take camping, and it immediately replaced the glass carafe unit for home coffee making too.The thermal pot is steel, and keeps coffee very hot for an hour, and hot enough for almost three hours. I am sitting here at 10am, just back from a walk, and poured the last cup. It's not super hot but it's drinkable, and I made this pot at 7am. The thermal pot is very stable, even with the brewing funnel on top, making it much safer in our camper. The one drawback is that it's difficult to pour the last cup as it dribbles out and can make something of a mess. Also, as noted in many other reviews, using the lid is *required* - the carafe won't pour without it. Makes a giant mess.

Great tasting coffee - hot for hours! This is a winner!
The Melitta Brewer and Stainless Steel Carafe has got to be one of the best values on Amazon. Melitta's pour-over filtering system with their unique paper filters can be found in millions of kitchens because they work so well. All one needs is a bit of patience and the right grind to make a perfect pot.The trick to heat retention is preheating the carafe with a little hot water for a few minutes before you start to brew your coffee. The 1.7L capacity translates to about ten 6 ounce cups and in our use that seems to be accurate. The biggest challenge in using this set-up is your patience. To brew a full pot is a 10-minute-or-so exercise. You wet the ground coffee, and slowly add more to just below the edge of the filter and try to constantly drip a few ml of water every few seconds...Once the last of the water has been poured and turned into great coffee, you exchange the brewing filter for the secure top and voila: you can pour and serve.I can brew a pot on the weekend and enjoy it all morning - that's a gift from my POV.If you're in a hurray for a quick pot to satisfy drop-in dinner guests, this is not for you. This is not a set-and-forget experience like an electric coffee machine. However, the great coffee is absolutely worth your investment! Enjoy!

Great Replacement for a Conventional Coffee Maker
I read a lot of the reviews for this product before I ordered and decided to give it a try. I am very happy that I did. Here are some thoughts:-Size: completely filled this will make about as much as a normal 12 cup Mr. Coffee coffee maker.-Cleaning: I find it easy to clean. I place it all parts in the dishwasher with no problems. The base seems solid and I've been placing it on the bottom rack. One note: like most items of this sort (ie: tumblers) that are not a one piece outer design, if you put it in the dishwasher there will be some residual water that may come out between the metal and the plastic. It's not coffee, just some water from the dishwasher.-Temperature: if you just place your hot coffee directly in the room temperature carafe it will only stay warm for maybe an hour. However, what I do is to boil my water, pour it in the carafe, let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, pour the water back into my kettle, reheat, and then use it for the pour over. Doing that my coffee stays hot, not just lukewarm, for at least three hours.-Taste: I find that this holds the flavor well for an extended time. When I would make coffee in a drip maker it would get bitter after a while of sitting on the hot plate. That does not happen here. I find the flavor to be a little better when compared to my drip maker as well. I'm not so sure that I notice the difference as much as I do between my singer-serve pour over and a Keurig, but it is noticeable.-Filter: I purchased a #4 metal filter that has worked flawlessly with this and sits in the filter cup perfectly. That way you can still get the oils from your coffee bean in your cup and you're not creating waste with a paper filter.Overall, I've been very happy with this product and I'd recommend it if you are interested in a pour over that make more than one or two cups. It's a cost-effective way to get into the process to see if you enjoy the difference.

Works great -- with some caveats
Pluses:Produces excellent coffee.Keeps coffee hot (Though I don't know how for how long, because I usually drink it all right away.)Unbreakable (Though mine arrived with a small dent at the bottom, which does not affect its use.)Cons:The plastic cone filter holder has only three feet and is very easy to tip over. (I can't tell you how many times I spilled coffee grounds all over the counter.) Though once it's in the carafe it's stable. It's nearly impossible to get all of the coffee out of the carafe -- even if you turn it upside down. Not all that easy to clean -- getting under the lid is difficult. (Though the lid comes apart for easy cleaning.)NOTE: Some people complain that the only way to put the lid on the carafe is to twist it around -- that's true, but I find this a very minor inconvenience, and it does create a dripless seal.
