I love it, so why three stars?
In reality, this is a 2.5 star product. I don't get that option on Amazon, and I'm an optimist. You're welcome, Zerolemon.SUMMARYIf you're looking for overkill protection AND a way to mitigate the Nexus 5's most significant short-coming (battery life), this is a great way to get it done for a reasonable price. Granted, I'd like to see instructions (not just better instructions, but ACTUAL instructions) regarding proper battery operation. I almost sent this back because I thought I had a bad battery because I didn't know what I was doing, and be prepared to sort out the proper protocol for your specific battery. This irritates me because I'm tech savvy and it took me a while to figure it out. It would be impossible for someone unfamiliar with these things, and that's bad for business.See you later 1 star: customer service starts from the moment the end user opens the product, and shame for leaving some of them puzzled. I imagine a lot of returns have happened because people can't figure out how to operate the battery, leading them to believe it's defective.Understand that this will make your Nexus 5 about three times it's girth, but I don't mind. It actually makes the phone more stable and comfortable to use, especially when moving through crowds and in the car. The little grippy texture on the sides is a major bonus. Yeah: this is a huge case, but guess what: if you're concerned about skinny jeans compatibility, buy a purse. Seriously. Skinny jeans are girl pants.Overall, I recommend this product to anyone.THE GOOD:Better build quality than my last Otterbox's hard plastic shell, though I would like to see a little more squish to the TPU outer-cover. The built-in screen cover is as good as Otterbox, or at least no worse. The fit and finish around the buttons is excellent; they're actually easier to use than a naked case. The battery gives me a solid 1.5 charges before it geeks, and charges at a current sufficient to increase my phone's charge while using it as a mobile hotspot. Also, kudos to Zerolemon for offering pass-thru charging. This is a great feature that only charges the external battery once the main phone is 100%. At that point, it trickle charges it while charging the backup. Some have mentioned that pass-thru doesn't work when the external battery is on. Why would you ever want to do that? Dumb dumb dumb.It also looks good clipped to the strap of my jump bag. I no longer work in EMS and SAR, but old habits die hard. I use a Maxpedition Tactical attaché (which rocks) when lugging the field content capture gear for my PR firm. This thing makes an otherwise unassuming murse-strap look tough. Kind of. What can I say: I'm a boot-fit kind of guy.THE WHO CARES:I noticed that the battery is positionally sensitive to causing interference. If I lay it screen down, my phone's data speeds slow and my hotspot becomes somewhat unreliable (unless I have more than twwo bars coverage). If I lay it screen up, all those problems go away and it functions just fine. I haven't noticed any issues with phone reception during normal usage. Also, the jumper is a little difficult to get out while everything is cased up if you're pulling it out with your finger nails. Don't use your finger nails. I carry a knife at all times: another habbit from my public service days. There are ridges, and you just use a little leverage after getting the blade positioned adequately. No problem.Other people have commented that they need deeper than normal mini USB cables to charge or access anything physically. This is a load. Every single USB cable will get in the holes I need them in, and the same goes for OTG. It would interfere with an OTG dock that fits close to the phone, but I've never been satisfied with any of the ones I've used. Cable and port access is fine.THE CONFUSING:Charge time on this battery is excessive. My Nexus 5 will charge from 4% to 100% in roughly 3 hours. This has about 1.5 times the capacity, however when both batteries are geeked, it takes more than 10 hours to charge both my phone and this pack to 100%. To me, it would appear it should only take 8hrs to do the job. What gives?THE BAD:First of all, the biggest detriment to this case is the complete absence of operation instructions. Yes, there are instructions on how to install your phone and the external battery, but a caveman could figure that out with ANY case. How about the battery's usage, which is the primary reason ANYONE would buy this?I've found that I need to press down on the battery button in a specific place with specific pressure for a few seconds to get the level lights to come on. THEN I need to press and hold again (you'll figure out that you have to bottom out the button) in order to kick on the charging. Sometimes it blinks for a few moments. Sometimes it doesn't. I'm just glad it doesn't blink constantly while charging. The reason I'd like to see a little more squish and flex to the TPU is because the port covers on this case are difficult to operate at times (I'm also getting older and less dextrous- thanks keyboards). Also, in my opinion, there is WAAAAAAY too much of the face exposed when in the case. The screen protector extends all the way down the Nexus 5. I imagine this is to allow the notification light to be visible, but there are better ways to incorporate that. This is a borderline "who cares?", but it does compromise the protection, if only slightly.Another thing that compromises the overall feel of quality is the belt clip. It holds the phone fine and looks okay, it also offers great stability and protection. However, the rotation of the clip itself leaves a lot to be desired: it moves way too easily. Maybe this is to make it more comfortable when changing positions during the day, but it makes it flop around when strapped to my bag, which is my primary carry method when on the go.I may be old school, but I'm a speakerphone guy. I hate bluetooth headsets. One: I'm not landing aircraft or calling in air strikes. Two: It doesn't matter what I'm working or, or for who: nothing I have to conduct over the phone requires that kind of urgency. Three: call quality sucks over bluetooth. Regardless how much you spend, it's only a matter of time before it degrades to unusable. This case renders speakerphone inoperable by creating a constant feedback loop due to 1) how the Nexus 5 designed its speaker/mic ports, 2) Zerolemon failing to mold in a divider between the mic and speaker grills in its case. Honestly, this is a fault of LG and Google in the design of the Nexus 5, but Zerolemon is supplying the aftermarket bits for it: they need to engineer a work around. In the mean time, I have to look at my bluetooth graveyard to find an acceptable device to use when I'm at the desk or in bed. I hate bluetooth for comms, but I'm even less of a fan of holding a microwave up to my head... especially when the case makes it the size of the 1969 phone in Men in Black 3.JUST END IT ALREADY:Yes: I'd like to see slightly better tactile impressions with better TPU. Yes, the instructions don't just suck, they're absent. Yes, the battery is a little confusing and slow to charge (time will tell if it's due to defect). Yes, there are other issues. However, when weighing the positives and negatives, I can easily recommend this product as it achieves all its objectives reasonably well. The instructions are an easy fix, and with them this would be a very good to excellent product. Buy it. Abuse it. Enjoy it.

This device definitely solved both of those issues so I'm pleased. The bulkiness doesn't bother me and I can ...
I had two problems with my Nexus 5. Battery life wasn't long enough (lucky to get a full day when traveling) and the micro usb connector was wearing out. This device definitely solved both of those issues so I'm pleased. The bulkiness doesn't bother me and I can still manage using it the way I used to with the swipe in one hand. (But it is big!)Since there is a jumper from the original Nexus 5 usb port to the Zerolemon mini usb port I no longer have to plug things in and out of the Nexus 5 which definitely reduces wear.Like many of the reviews already here are the things I don't like, some of which are just the nature of the beast, some could be improved:* The plastic feels 'cheap'. I do worry about cracking the thing in two when I take it apart or put it together. So far, so good.* It is huge. People will make fun of your phone :) But it's a great conversation piece. Ha.* When holding it, the 'volume down' button gets pressed a bit when I don't want it to. Not a huge deal but I do have to think about holding the phone with a bit more 'finesse'.* I'm not sure what the point of the included micro - mini usb cord is for. I suppose if you just had the battery you could use the battery and that cord but not with the case? Seems like a waste.* It does NOT work with Qi charging.Over all this is a good work-around product, but it is still feels like a work-around for something that should not have to be done.

Very disappointing, does not hold a charge
I bought this in hopes of being able to extend the battery life of my Nexus 5 by at least one charge. The experience has not lived up to the promise. I've been using it for about a week, and I leave my phone plugged in all night inside this case. You're supposed to be able to hit the button on the back of the case to kick in the external battery but it no longer holds a charge. It charges the phone for about 45 minutes and then dies. So I've doubled the size and tripled the weight of my phone for nothing. Also, the case seems poorly manufactured, when you try to hit the up volume, sometimes you also end up pressing the down volume. And the port covers don't snap into place properly so they kind of dangle loose. If you need more power for your phone, stick with an external USB battery, like the ones made by Jackery, instead. Don't make the same mistake I did and purchase this battery case.

Absolute junk. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Absolute junk. Material is unless and instructions are really useless. The person who rated this 5 stars is probably an employee. Battery is not included and you will have to purchase it about £30 total of £50 for a complete waste. AVOID THIS PRODUCT

Don't Love It
It's an alright case, protects my phone fairly well. the belt clip is nice though t is impossible to find the extra battery that fits into it unless you buy the black case that comes with the battery, which was very disappointing. It also gives some kind of background noise when using your mic, which disappeared as soon as i removed the case.

but other than that it's a good heavy duty case
Not a fan of the little bumps on the side or how far it is to the charging port due to the thick case (doesn't that they make the charging port on the phone so small either), but other than that it's a good heavy duty case. Better than the cheap thin plastic ones they sell in stores for the same price. Not many cases in store for Nexus 5. And love the colors :D
