The Fosse Style

Paid for a new hardback copy, but received a used book. I owned the original hardback with a bookjacket, loaned it to a friend and it was lost. Paying $47 for a new book, I expected the same., but this arrived without a bookjacket and obviously had been used; I'd rate it very good used condition but not new. The book itself is excellent in terms of Fosse technique-- so simple in appearance, extricate in execution. Light on text, heavy on photos, this is a unique tool for a dance student/instructor to learn or polish their jazz technique in the Fosse style. Amazon recently sent a piece of clothing in a box with lots of padding but sent this hardback book in a padded envelope which subjected it to damage. Amazon, where is your quality control and common sense? I'll be returning this overpriced "new" book.

Really useful book for the Fosse style of theater dance. Not being a dancer and having agreed to join my girlfriend in her dance company's production of Chicago, this came in really handy when trying to understand this unique style of dance. Highly recommended

To learn Fosse moves as isometric exercise. They break down the tiny movements into understandable and doable moves.

Good book. The pictures help so much. I knocked it down a star simply because there was not enough material there.

Think the book does explain and show his style well. So much more to his work than in the book, but a very good beginning and helpful book for those interested in the makings of Fosse dance.

My wife has been obsessed with the dancing of Fosse after seeing Cabaret, so I bought this book as a gift for her. She absolutely loves it. The book is simplistic enough for her as a beginner to be slinking around the house in the characteristic Fosse style. Plus, one of our daughter's college friends is a theater major in college and has borrowed it and found it to be helpful in learning the dance style. I was skeptical after reading the negative review here on amazon, but found the book to be well-written and it was able to teach my novice wife and a theater student some new dance moves. Overall - highly recommended.

This is truly a fantastic book. Ms. McWaters passes on the nuances of the Fosse style (learned for such Fosse greats as Ann Reinking, and Gwen Verdon) in a remarkably easy to follow manner, masterfully illustrated by pictures that clearly demonstrate and illustrate every move. I have had the opportunity to see Fosse's choreography numerous times but could not tell EXACTLY what the dancers were doing - now I can and so can anyone who reads the book. If you love Fosse's work you will love this book.

This book was terrific!! I loved reading a book about the actual Fosse Technique instead of just about Bob Fosse's life. This book was written by the Assistant Choreographer of Chicago and Fosse on Broadway and actually walks you step by step through the Fosse style. I learned so much! A must for any dancer!

Helpful for level 2. Good illustrations and clear descriptions.
