Works very well with FM.
Folks, please note the item description before you buy. It's not a magic wand and won't amplify a signal that doesn't reach it.I purchased this signal booster for use with my garage radio. Reception can be iffy here in Central New York, yet the unit does a fine job on FM. I can receive stations now that barely came through before. It's easy to tell, just reduce the gain and the signal disappears. So yes, I'm very pleased with it and feel that I got a good value for my money. That said, I didn't find an improvement with AM reception. No problem there, I don't use AM anyhow. And it may be due to poor signal strength. We are out in the boondocks. ☺Setup instructions are included. Easy to connect and use.

Great for FM. AM not so much.
I bought this for its FM capability. It receives clear FM stations way better than my old BIC Beam Box which uses tuning dials and an antenna arm selector to capture signal from different directions. The Terk works with no attention and even picked up a station weakly that was completely absent from the old one. The AM antenna does not seem to work at all. Thus the reduced rating. I kind of wish the light was a tiny LED or switchable.

Utterly useless! Worse than no antenna at all!
There are some cheap products out there that do not perform very well, but I have never had a product that was worse than not having anything at all like this one. I have a nice $500 Pioneer Stereo system. During a move, I lost the AM and FM antenna wires that came with it. I could still pick up local stations without them, but there was a little static, so I thought I would buy this to improve the signal. I thought WRONG! But that is not the whole story. Read on.The first unit I got was clearly a return that someone had returned to Amazon, even though I paid for a new unit. It was missing the power adaptor so I contacted Amazon.com for a replacement. I told them that they had sent me a used unit and that I wanted a new, non-opened unit. So Amazon sent me another unit. Guess what? Yep! It was also a previously opened return. But this one had the power adaptor, so I thought I would try it out.I hooked it up and turned on my stereo, BUUZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!! the was super loud static. I thought I had connected it wrong and so I turned it off and reversed the wires. BUUUZZZZZZ!!!!!!! So I left my stereo on and just unplug the wires, the buzzing stopped and the was my local station loud, with just the normal tiny bit of static. I plug the wires back in BUZZZ!!! I tried moving the antenna base to every possible position, but it was just a huge buzzing sound.WARNING! Evidently many people have bought and returned these units and Amazon.com is selling them as NEW and not Open Box. Save your money and do not buy this product. It is utterly worthless and will actually do worse then if you had no antenna at all. I have a $5 dollar store radio that can pick up stations with no problem, so I know it is not a reception issue. It is this antenna. Since I received two returned items, that tells you a lot of people are having the same problem with this product and returning it.

It DOES make a difference
I had the basic Terk FM antenna, not amplified before this purchase. It did a fair job pulling in the local stations, however the signal was weak, and just walking around the room interfered with the reception. I had to keep it at the window to get anything decent. I was able to "A-B" both antennas using the same equipment. This unit made a clear difference. The signal was 20% stronger based on my tuner meter. There was no deterioration when moving about the room. Clarity was improved, and bass was palpably stronger and fuller. If you have a very strong signal, the basic Terk antenna will likely be adequate, but for just a small amount more, you'll be sure you're getting the best out of your tuner.

Didn't see much of a difference.
I bought this for the place I work at, at work. I don't like country and sadly we can only get two radio stations: one that plays 60s-90s and one that plays country. The country station always comes in, and the other station is intermittent, sometimes it will just fuzz out entirely at random for no apparent reason, I can only theorize it has something to do with how much CB chatter is going on as there's lots of coal buckets and rigs running the roads where I work.Anyhow, we had an old timey huge receiver box for a radio, and we had some wire antenna hooked up to it, so I thought I'd give this thing a try.To be honest, I switched between the two antenna several times and I didn't really notice much of any difference in the quality of reception. I know our building has a lot of electronics, coolers, etc and it's not really made with good radio reception in mind, and I know it's not in the most favorable terrain, etc, but I expected at least *some* difference with an antenna that has the features this one does. Even with the gain knob on full I didn't notice any difference at all which I thought was rather strange.Oh well. It still works as a basic antenna, I guess.

Works great
I am using it with an old 200 watt receiver/amp. My old antennas picked up a lot of noise so never used the radio. It turns out the noise was from surrounding electronic equipment. The new antenna allowed me to move it about 5 feet away and reception is now great. The old antenna may have worked fine if move out of the noise as well. I don't know because I junked it a long time ago.The antenna is highly sensitive. Turning up the built in RF amplifier made the noise extremely loud. Moving it 5 feet from noisy electronics cleared it up even with the RF amp turn up full.I need longer cords. It has three cords, AM, FM and power. All are too short to get it far away and in an out of the way location. I will have to work out some extensions.
