Excellent value for the money
I own several Smith & Wesson knives, every one of them has been great value for the price. No these are not going to be in the same category as some of the $300 and up "survival" or "Combat" knives, but for the money, these are excellent and will get the job done.I purchased this one for my bug out bag. I am very pleased with this knife. Though it is not my primary "survival" knife, I would not feel that I was lacking if this were the only knife I had in a camping or survival situation, and it appears that it would be just fine for actual combat as well. The knife arrived on time and sharp, though I did sharpen it a little more. The included sharpening stone isn't that great but will do in a pinch. The knife was tight, no wobble like other reviews have mentioned. It was in new, unscratched condition. The knife is a tad lighter than I expected, making it great for hiking or backpacking, perfect for a bug out bag. I'm not a fan of the overly large nylon sheaths most knives come with lately, but it will get the job done.My only complaint with this knife, and it is minor, is that there is a silver pin through the pommel, securing the handle to the tang. The head is pounded in and flattened but there is a slight sharp point raised up on one side. A little grinding fixed it, though I still put a layer of black tape over, just because it looked out of place.I have taken it camping a couple times, just to get a good feel for it, and it sliced through rope, sticks, food, everything I needed it to cut. It does the job and for an excellent price, which is why I gave it 5 stars even though I had a few minor dislikes. You really can't beat it. I plan on buying a couple more.

S&W Search And Rescue Knife
This is my favorite knife. I'll start with the sheath. It is made of nylon webbing, so its pretty heavy duty. There are 6 loops to attach it to things, which is nice if you're camping and want to tie it onto a backpack or something. It is re-enforced at the flex point where the knife enters the sheath, so its not going to fall apart. The part of the sheath that the knife is covered by is heavy plastic covered by nylon webbing. There is also a diamond file in a pocket on the front of the sheath. The velcro that holds the knife in the sheath is kind a pain because the blade guard catches on it every time you take the knife out or put it back in, but its there for a reason. The knife itself is great too. It is VERY sharp right out of the box, so be careful. It is nice and solid, fairly heavy and is well balanced. The "blood-line" doesn't actually serve a purpose, I don't know why its even there. The knife has to be put in the sheath in a certain direction, otherwise it doesn't go in all the way. If you know how to sharpen a knife, it is really easy to sharpen this one. You just have to be careful not to take off the black coating on the rest of the blade. Overall, this is the most practical (if a knife like this can be practical) knife I've bought in a long time. It is a little bit large, but besides that, it is a great fixed blade knife, equal in quality to any high priced Ka-Bar.

Great knife for the price
I bought this knife for use when I'm hiking a camping. Thus far, it has fit my needs perfectly. It arrived within the promised amount of shipping time, well packaged and was surprised to find it was somewhat sharp. It wasn't hair splitting sharp but did cut threw standard paper. A couple of swipes on my sharpening stone and it was good to go.The knife was exactly as I thought it would be. It is a good size knife with a good amount of weight to it. Its got a hardened rubber handle which is rather comfortable the blade is pretty thick, at least 3/8" at the spine. One pleasant surprise is that this knife is partially double-edged. It has the main edge on the bottom there is also a short (2") edge on the top as well. Now, I haven't given this knife a real good test yet. So far I've just used it to cut fruit and food when cooking at the campsite, and it worked great for that (but of course most knifes would). I soon plan to use it to whittle down sticks to make fire as well as kindling. I'll to sure to write an updated review once it give it a thorough workout.I don't know why there have been a few review mention the poor quality of the sheath. It's your typical nylon sheath with plastic insert in which the knife is placed. It seems to be well constructed at looks like it can take a good amount of wear. The only minor issue I would have with it is that it the area of the belt loop isn't rigid which makes putting the knife back in the sheath on the move a little more difficult if I have it secured to my pack or something where I can't see it. Other than that, it's got all the loops and required to secure it to a pack, vest, harness, etc in a variety of ways.Overall this is a GREAT knife, especially for the small amount of money I paid for it. I would recommend this knife to anyone.
