This is an amazing and completely delicious alternative to tomato-based products. It can be used in place of tomato paste, sauce and crushed tomatoes. I go through it like water. It’s extremely versatile and works in everything from Mexican dishes, pastas and masalas to shatta, chutneys and dolmades. You can fry purple onions then this pepper paste with garam masala to flavor a truly delicious, lemony hummus. I can’t say enough good things.

Fresh taste and the price is a good deal.

I bought this as it is a common ingredient for a number of recipes in a cookbook I recently purchased. Did the job and was tasty.

Oncu is now a pantry staple for me. My daughter has a tomato allergy and so I bought it to use as "tomato" paste. It is a little less strong than tomato paste, so I would use about 50% more than the recipe indicated. I found that I liked it even more than tomato paste - it is less harsh, less acidic, but has a full complex flavor that adds umami and color to stews. I even add it to tomato sauces that I make for myself! I don't think that it could replace an Italian tomato sauce, but I add it to mushroom sauces, soups, stews, Indian curries, and more. And, it is significantly cheaper than tomato paste.

I went to open the container 2months after I purchased it. It’s a glass container and it was full of mold. Had to throw it out.

Very tasty pepper paste, savory, mild (not spicy) with a slightly sweet taste. I love that it only has 2 ingredients, peppers and salt. We use it to add extra layer of flavor to so many dishes, like fried cabbage, soups, and meatloaf just to name a few. The jar was extremely well packaged with thick bobble wrap placed in small box packed inside another box.

I found pepper paste as an ingredient for a Turkish lentil soup, so I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the mild flavor it added to the soup. I have since used this in several savory recipes, and my husband is enjoying it, as well. It is a mild pepper paste, and we enjoy a little more oomph, so I additionally ordered the hot spicy pepper paste. Now I use them - half and half - in many dishes that also use tomato paste or tomato sauce, because it adds so much flavor.
