It is visually AND intellectually stimulating. I have a particular interest in the symbolism of the Islamic garden and Clark not only gives an in depth description of this, but also puts it in context--historic and contemporary. This is also an excellent guide through the component parts of the garden. The chapter on The Prince of Wales' Carpet Garden is fascinating. As Islamic gardens play such an important role in the history of garden design, this gem should be in every designer's book collection. Review: Fascinating Book - Gorgeous pictures. The Art of The Islamic Garden
Very nicely written, infomative, illustrations well chosen. Did not realize there was a chapter on Prince Charles' Islamic style garden in England - an excellent example of how to design this type of garden in a different climate.

An inspirational book. If you are thinking of creating in UK the serenity of an Islamic garden - perhaps after visiting Andalucia- then this is the book for you. It combines scholarship , style, and practical advice including plants to choose for a northern climate. Plus a case study of Highgrove's Carpet garden. Five stars - hugely recommended.

Un libro a mi juicio que hay que tener para el diseño de un jardín con sabor andaluz. La autora sabe de lo que habla

My husband bought me this for my birthday after we had visited Cordoba in Spain. We want to create a Moorish courtyard similar to those we saw there and in Seville and Granada. This book is beautifully constructed and very clear on all the features found in Islamic gardens, their meanings and uses. My own design flowed easily from the information given and now all we have to do is find the right builder. A lovely, lovely book.
