I rinsed them in clean water & followed the planting instructions. I don't even think it's been 7 days and I have asparagus stalks popping up already! These are great. The crowns were big & healthy. I'm looking forward to many seasons of purple asparagus in my raised beds. I have them interplanted with strawberries. Review: 2nd Year Success!!!! - I ordered these plants the end of April Last year 2018. I have raised beds and decided to dedicated one to asparagus. Never having grown Asparagus ever I decided I would dedicate a 8x4 bed to asparagus. I followed the instructions, added some bone meal as well as specific asparagus fertilizer. I was surprised that EVERY plant came up and not sure what to do at the end of the first year I cut the asparagus back to soil level. I took the fronds which were several feet tall, I laid them down on top of the cut asparagus and then covered it with leaf mulch, thats how they were protected over the winter here in Chicago. This year early spring I removed all the top covering, old fronds etc.. I added some fresh soil, sprinkled down some bone meal and more asparagus fertilizer. Now its middle of May and they fronds are 6 feet tall. I decided to leave them alone as most suggest and not to start actually harvesting until next year. I could not be more impressed and happy with the sturdiness and vitality of these plants. For never growing asparagus I consider this a success. These are extremely healthy and I can't wait to start enjoying these for the next 20 plus years. These are almost all male plants that do not produce seeds as female plants produce less asparagus and all their energy is put into reproducing so I read. I have found a handful of berries on some of these last year indicating a female plant which is fine by me. but since I don't have a sprawling garden getting male plants was important as I didn't want them choking themselves out without having enough room to grow. I have had no insects, asparagus beetles etc.. Simply follow the instructions as initial install is a little tedious and you have to have a plan and proper soil preparation and you cannot go wrong.

Good looking crowns - Got 2 extra's
Paid for 25. Got 2 extras. Looks like 3YO crowns with tips trimmed. Very nice. Within 10 days of planting, 10+ had sprouts popping up. Now have 24 with growth (out of 27). About 15 look good, others are a bit scrawny. I'm at day 26 of them being in soil. Overall, good experience! I'm in the City (not rural), and need to move stuff to make room for more. Intend to by another round when I have the room. 12 dwarf trees, 80+ plants, etc, means not much room for more plants.

Not what I was looking for
I purchased this because I had a raised garden with purple asparagus. Do not know the name of that asparagus but it did very well. My only problem was after several years, the female plants were producing baby plants to the point where the raised garden could not longer hold any more plants. I had a larger raised garden built for asparagus only. I couldn't save any of the plants from my old garden. When I saw this, I thought it was the same asparagus plant as was in my old garden and it was advertised as 70% male. I planted all the crowns in pots because I only wanted male plants. As soon as they produced berries (seeds), I gave the plant away to friends who wanted them. Out of 25 plants, I was down to 6 plants which did not produce any berries so I planted them into my new raised garden. It's now over 6 months and the plants have all done well except 4 of the 6 plants that were planted in my new raised garden have started producing berries. I have those marked to pull out. Out of 25 crowns, I am now down to 2 plants that may or may not be male. So disappointed but for those of you who do not care whether the plants are male/female, these did very well and was easy to grown. Just not what I am looking for. REVISED: -I am revising my review and upping the stars to 4 stars. It has now been about 4-5 years & my asparagus plants are doing great. I ended up with about 6 male plants and they are prolific producers. The spears are HUGE, sweet, juicy and tender. I have learned that some males can produce flowers but they do not turn into berries so I may have been mistaken when I thought some were females. We love the asparagus from my garden. Store bought just does not compare with these. Very pleased with them

Better than I expected. Thank you!
I put these in the dirt Saturday, now three days later I already see 6 points poking out of the dirt! So excited as I've never grown asparagus before. I recieved the package Friday, roots were still moist and some mold but that was not any issue. Most of them were very good sized. I put them in a large open baggie in a tall bowl and added some diluted agrothrive fertilizer to soak the roots until planting. I planted them in a raised bed using my natural garden dirt for about 3/4 depth of the planters, about 2 inches of compost/manure and the rest is filled with various bags of organic raised bed and garden soil with coco coir mixed in as well. Very late in season planting but they will have time to grow well at the rate they're going. A great investment of time for years to come, I hope!

These were moldy & rotted when I opened them. Sorry it took so long to write a review... been putting in my garden.

Impressive!
I was SO impressed with the health and amount of roots I received. They will indeed produce asparagus that will be ready to eat much sooner than if I had gotten the usual younger plants. Flavor will not be determined until the roots grow asparagus.
