CDU400 Power Lok Drive Unit for Lawn and Garden Tools

I have had many trimmers and still maintain a fleet of at least 5 of all different types. I have a rental property and my yard is 6+ acres so I need more than one good trimmer. I bought my first Core trimmer about 10+ years ago and I would still be using the original had I not placed it sideways across the back of the golf cart and caught it on a fencepost, bending it about 60 degrees. I went ahead and bought a Stihl electric trimmer to replace it, and while I like it a lot, the thing that turned me off is that it came with one battery and to buy a second is basically the price of a new trimmer. So now I keep the Stihl equipped with the blade type cutter for the rough stuff and use the Core for everything else. I also just missed the Core. I know there are newer offerings out there, but I still think this "obsolete" trimmer is as good or better than anything out there. I now also have three batteries now and can cut weeds until I physically get tired.

It is a great weed trimmer. I have two other Core products a blower and a bush trimmer I bought them in 2013 and the batteries are still good and so are the attachments. I used all the string that came with it today. I just got it. I just ordered some more string and now writing a review. It is a little heavy but it is balanced so well you don't even notice the weight. I love all my core products, they are all very well made. I did not time the battery but I went through two of them, and if I hadn't run out of string I would still be working, I was worn out anyway.

Purchased this item with blower attachment one year ago. The high/low speed switch started giving me trouble the second time I used it. Fortunately, I only needed to use it on the low speed mode. Worked ok until today. Tried to contact the company and Google redirected me to Cub Cadet which has bought the company. Spoke with a technician there who suggested it was the battery that had failed. I had maybe used the blower 50 times so I asked him what the expected life was for the battery? "There is no expected life on the battery." I understand it is all dependent upon the battery usage but he kept giving me the same answer. Hate filling up the landfill, but that's where garbage goes....

I thing one mistake I made with this unit is I did not send it back. I purchased the power unit with the blower and the Trimmer for about $450. I purchased the blower to simple blow water out of the cracks when I wash my car in the winter, it barely moves the water at all. The charge only lasts about 15 minutes as well. I did contact Core before making the purchase and they felt it would do what I was looking for. For this much money, I expected much more, it will be sold on ebay for a substantial loss. I have used the unit twice.

Powerful! Using it with string trimmer attachment. Cuts as well and as fast as my old gas powered commercial grade Husqvarna weed whacker, and without the noise and the hassle of mixing gas and oil.. Cuts tall grass/weeds like butter on the steep hill surrounding our house, and I was using low speed!. A pleasure to use. Only shortcoming is limitation of battery life. That said, it lasted approx. 1 hour before I had to recharge it to finish the job. Would recommend purchasing an additional battery if the unit is for commercial use where you need to cut for 1.5 to 2 hours.

I got this with the weed-eater, blower, and hedge trimmer attachments. Works much better than some dedicated electric units from other makers. This saves space and is quiet so no earprotection required and I'm not "that neighbor". Is light enough all in the family can use it.I have two powercells so can do any task on 2.5 acres with a quick switch.
