HIC Kitchen Premium Tea Strainer - Stainless Steel Tip-Style
For decades I had a WMF silver plated swivel tea sieve from Germany ( got it as a wedding gift in 1961) and due to almost everyday use the silver plate started looking shabby and the swivel sieve was worn out. After a long search on the internet I tried Amazon, and there it was: stainless steel, not as expensive as those on Etsy ("antiques") and very functional (the swivel part is still a little hard to swivel, but I have now again a combination of tea sieve with an attached drip catcher. Fancy silver plate? Oh well, I couldn't care less: I am almost 90 years old and am happy enough with stainless steel!

In short, it's flawless
Rewriting this because we just ordered two more. The one I bought 8 years ago still looks as pristine as the new ones, not a single fraying wire or anything. And although it is so fine it hasn't ever gotten clogged from buildup (I was expecting to have to soak it in vinegar periodically but nope). In the years since buying the first one we got a few locally because we wanted spares but didn't just reorder this to save the hassle of waiting for mailorder stuff. And we learned that most sieves have the handle spot welded onto the sieve edge, creating a weak point right at the part of the device that endures the most force, so eventually it snaps off. My husband strains the scary slime out when he pours a cup of of kombucha so naturally he taps the sieve face-down over the garbage or sink to remove the slime, and those other, flimsy, badly-designed sieves can't handle the impact. They kept breaking after less than a year of use. THIS gorgeous design has a single sturdy rod bent all around, forming the handle AND the sieve rim, ONE PIECE, so there's no spotweld to break! Being all-stainless, it also doesn't care about the acidity of all that kombucha, while we've has ones from the grocer that start to rust, making you wonder what's getting into your drink. These are so, so much better than other sieves!

Good strainer, used for drying small membrane parts
I am giving four stars because I think it would work better if the little strainer could be lifted off of the setup. I think that would make use much better. However, it works well and I'm happy with it, so four stars! The best way to describe this contraption is that it is a min-strainer, that is on a hinge (there are connections along the rim at the two places it touches the rest of the contraption). This means the strainer can be leaned or "rocked". There is a tall handle (highest point of the item) and a pan at the bottom to collect excess liquid (lowest part of the item). I use this to dry small membranes (from a breast pump) after washing. For that purpose, I would like for the strainer to be able to be lifted away, but otherwise I am quite happy with this product!

Great fit!
This tea strainer works so well for any size of cup, which is perfect for my bigger mugs. The drip is slow and satisfying because I know I am getting the most out of my tea leaves when I pour the boiling water. Definitely great for single use.

These are very useful
They handled were a bit rough on the edges when I got it but cleaning it with a scrubby sponge removed the edges in no time. They weren’t sharp like other reviews claimed. It works really well for filtering tea and catches even small bits of tea like lavender flowers. I’m happy with my purchase and love the Star pattern on it.

Everything I wanted
I needed a strainer for loose leaf tea, and ordered this one. It's worked out absolutely perfectly for me. Even the teensy-tinsy bits of peppermint leaf in the brewed tea don't get through the very-extra-fine-mesh, and it's the perfect diameter to fit into the opening of the quart jars I use. I make my tea a quart-at-a-time (and refrigerate it), and the strainer is deep enough to hold the all the soggy leftover-tea-and-herb-leaves from this extra-large cup of tea. I've had it several months, now and it's still just like new - no corrosion or rust, and no problems with the seams where the mesh meets the framework. Couldn't ask for more. If you're looking for something to actually brew your tea IN, though, this is not your solution. It's the wrong shape for that – too shallow. And if you plan to strain thicker solutions than tea, you'll want one of the larger strainers, with a correspondingly coarser mesh. This 2-1/2-inch one would be too small for that, and too slow. But if you want something reasonably priced, and elegantly simply-shaped, for straining already-brewed-tea through, this is absolutely perfect.

Useful for all except teas with straight leaves
This works great for loose leaf teas that come in small pieces. I recently bought a green tea that came in straight leaves (meant for a teapot), and I have to squish those down and break them into smaller pieces so that there is enough for how much I want to steep. I use this device to prepare tea for the morning and for my vacuum sealed bottle. The conical mesh focuses water out the tip, so even if I'm pouring hot water around the edges to catch all the leaves, the end result still comes out centered. This is nice. **Note:** This device isn't meant for steeping, but just for pouring hot water over the leaves. This works great for black leaves and rooibos, but I let green leaves sit for a couple minutes after the first pour just to get them to moisten up and draw the flavor to the surface (basically a crude steep). It works fine. I first pour the appropriate temperature hot water through this thing (with my tea of choice) and into a mug, and then I let it sit for a minute or two, place it over the mouth of my vacuum sealed bottle, and pour more water until full. Then I seal the bottle for work, and drink the cup before heading out. So far, this has worked well. **Note:** This is my bottle. Highly recommended for the office worker. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KZ6JZ5F

I purchased this as a gift along with some whole leaf tea and a mug. It sits on the mug as it steeps and the handle is convenient to flip out the leaves when finished. It was much less pricey than the typical tea infusers I use in my pots and mugs but worked perfect for making the little daily mugs of tea I do. No smell or taste to worry about and sits as it should. I wouldn't use this for a big tea pot necessarily since I like to put on a lid and tea cozy to retain the heat as the tea steeps- and some family like stronger tea and would use my deeper strainer for that.

The product is very good but doesn't justify the price.

Everything was very good about the product. My 97 year old friend needed it for her tea. The only negative was the price. Too much!
