“Mixing Mindset,” is the beginners’ mixing instruction manual we’ve been missing!
This book is loaded with great information that so many other mixing instructors never mention. It of course goes into detail on all the technical aspects of mixing, giving examples of good EQ and compression moves for all kinds of situations, but it also largely focuses on the creative decision-making and problem-solving skills needed to construct a great mix. This is the key thing that so many other mixing tip sources fail to touch on. Most of the material you can find elsewhere on the subject will just throw suggestions at you without actually hearing where it’s being applied, and beginners will take that as a kind of cure-all solution for any situation; when in actuality the tip likely won’t work in their case. Mike makes a point of letting you know that you need to actually use your ears and evaluate your own mix to diagnose what exactly the problems are. He makes sure that you’re aware that there is no cure all, while still giving you all the tools you need to be capable of finding the solution to your unique mixing problems. “Mixing Mindset” is going to change the way people learn mixing, and will likely lead to young engineers improving significantly more quickly than they ever have before.

Straight to the point!
I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to using it as a reference. It is very easy to understand and follow along, and the terms used are explained within the context of the book as well as a glossary in the back. The subject matter is presented in a way, that is straightforward and includes examples to ensure the reader understands what the author says. The information here can apply to any genre even though rock is the genre discussed throughout. I am also looking forward to applying the information and tips provided.

Excellent mixing primer
As a composer producing and mixing my own music, I learned quite a lot from this book. It is very comprehensive with the right level of detail, without becoming too technical. Especially liked the clear workflow and examples of EQ and other settings. What could be improved: it covers various instruments, but nothing about keys (i am a former keyboardist). Also, examples refer to ProTools and plugins, while I am using Ableton Live, and I expected to see some tips for that DAW. But I'm still happy with my Kindle purchase.

Great information.
I am teaching my 16-year-old nephew how to mix audio. This has become the textbook for our lessons. Great beginning book on multi track audio recording.

I wish this was around when I was starting out
I was familiar with Mike and the music he’s been a part of prior to purchasing, so this book had instant credibility when I found it.Mike explains the core fundamental process of mixing and does it simply which I appreciate. He is not wordy nor talks in circles. I read it in under an hour. I didn’t learn anything new necessarily, but it has reinforced that I am on the right track with what I know and how I approach my mixes.I wish this was around when I started, it would have made things a lot clearer out of the gate.I absolutely recommend this to those who are just starting or those who need a refresher. Although it is basic, I see myself referencing this frequently in the future.

If you are interested in deep dive into mixing music with modern tools this book is for you.
This is a technical reading. Follows a pragmatic approach and has some recommendations that can be used straight away. In my opinion is not for amateurs, but for people who already can mix to some level of proficiency and want to enhance their skills.

Would have skipped audio school if this book was out years ago
The Mixing Mindset is definitely going to be my handbook I leave on top of my desk for years to come! Whether you have the plugins shown in examples in this book, or not, its very easily actionable and easy to follow along with your mixes. Can either read the book front to back, or if you do hit a bump in the road, just open to the chapter in the book that has the part of the mix you're struggling with, and it gives you a sense of direction and make you more confident in your moves. Coming from a larger school in Hollywood, I can say i've had more valuable lessons in this book than I did in the year I spent in audio school. A lot of courses and books just tell you what moves to make for making records but this book shows you all the "whys".

Great for beginners and advance engineers alike!
I've been an audio engineer for almost a decade, and reading Mike's book The Mixing Mindset has done several things for me. In a way, it has reaffirmed that many of the processes I'm using are used by other great engineers — which is always good to know. However, much more importantly the book showed me some new techniques that I can't wait to try.As audio engineers, we never stop learning and I think that Mike's book will provide a benefit both for absolute beginners and seasoned engineers because we should never assume that we know the best way to do everything. Mike sums up his techniques in a nice, easy to read format, which will make applying them to my mixes quite easy. I highly recommend the book!
