Best earplugs ever
Oken Swimming Earplugs Audible Ear Plugs for Swimming, Surfing, Diving and Water Sports BUY THESE!!!! These are the BEST earplugs I've ever used. They keep water out and once you get the right size figured out they are super comfortable. They magically reduce annoying noise but still let you hear what's important. This version is no longer available but I do see several others still around.

Good Earplugs, not for surfing
Great earplugs for the average user. Though, I bought them primarily for surfing. First session was very impressed that they stayed in the whole time and did their job. That said, didn’t have any wipeouts during their first use. Took them out the next day for another surf session, mistimed a wave and was thrown under some white wash and one of the ear plugs instantly came out with the force of the white wash. The fall wasn’t anything big or crazy where I think the waves were maybe 3ft that day; would compare it to mistiming a duck dive. Can’t knock the earplugs too hard as it’s probably my fault for having too much confidence in them. They are very comfortable and keep the water out and don’t hinder hearing too much. But if you are getting them for surfing, would only recommend them for longboarders and real mushy conditions.

They work perfectly for me
I am currently training for a triathlon, so I'm swimming 2-3 hours a week. I hate the feeling of water in my ears, so I decided to get some earplugs. I had to try out a couple different-sized buds before I found the pair that worked for me, but once I did, it was awesome. Absolutely no water getting in, and that's with a solid hour of swimming. No adjustment needed mid-swim. I just pop them in, make sure the little hook is braced against my (I think it's) triangular fossa, and I'm good to go. I haven't used any other earplugs, so I can't speak to whether they allow more or less sound in than other brands, but I can hear conversations from other people at the pool with them in, so I'm sure you could hear your coach or whoever yelling instructions at you.

Ok, but...
I swim laps. I own another pair of ear plugs, which have “wings”, if you will, to keep the water out. They do a good job, but I need to use the straps on my goggles to keep them in place. I have trouble hearing our group leader call out reps / sets to swim with those in, and bought these as a possible replacement. They do an ok job. In surface swimming, they fit reasonably well, and stay in place better than my other pair (haven’t tried using them without goggles to keep them in place, but it seems like they should stay put, frankly). That said, I think they might be letting in a little water. And I bought them (at a premium over my other pair) so that I’d be able to hear better while wearing them. From that perspective, they fall a little short. I can maybe hear a little better, but not noticeably, really. If buying anew, for my purpose of swimming laps while using goggles, I’d just buy my “other” pair again, as cheaper and more comfortable. If looking to use earplugs without goggles, these definitely stay in place better on their own. In terms of hearing better? Meh.

Have been a surfear customer for years until I found these.
Can't stomach buying a $60 pair of surf ears, when they last me only a season of cold water surfing. These work good if you can get the right fitby customizing the ear pieces. If not, they'll fall out in powerful surf. I'd suggest the manufacturers incorporate a way to integrate a leash.

Flimsy and cheap
In this case you get what you pay for. Cheap, flimsy, poorly made, ineffective. Don't waste your money on these.

Too small
too small for my very large ear canals.

Just what I needed!!
I was little hesitant to buy after some reviews, but after looking at MANY earplugs on here all the reviews seem to be the same, so i took my chances with this one. They Work!!. I went to St. Thomas and did snorkeling and dived about 10 to 15 feet and did laps swimming..I put them to the ultimate test..amd not one drip of water came through! Now I did have to go up a size in the plug. The one that comes on there already fit and it worked ok, but as soon as I went up to the next size, it was perfect fit! I'm going to have to buy a second pair just in case I ever lose these.
