ScottsCompany 17295 Classic Heat and Drought Mix Grass Seed, 7-Pound

This did the trick, I had grass growing with 1 month - and we had very little rain.

This is very slow germinating and seems to be very slow growing, probably part of what makes it drought tolerant. It took about 3 weeks to get about 50% germination, and after four weeks, what has grown is only 1/4" tall. Other grasses I have used in the past have grown faster, on the other hand they weren't as drought tolerant.I sowed them during a dry California winter of 50-60 degrees, and perhaps they would have grown faster in warmer weather, but I wanted to sow them right before rain was expected. On days that are not raining, I have watered these seeds 1 or 2 times a day.

second time I've used this kind of seed, and each time it's sprouted in less than a week. Awesome seed.

The seed was planted in the late summer to give it a chance to germinate and set roots before winter. By mid October it was green and growing well. The winter has about 1ft to 2ft of snow on the ground continuously in Dec-Mar, with overnight lows down to 0F with a couple of weeks at -20F. In the spring, the snow melted and the grass was initially brown, as expected for a winter dormancy. Unfortunately, very little survived and it stayed mostly brown all the way through the spring and now into summer. The wild grass on the neighboring property has sprouted green, grown tall, gone to seed, and is now golden brown. I rated this 3 stars because it didn't survive the winter.

Received first package March 16, 2022 near Houston Texas.Seeds past sell by date of September 2021 for Texas.Sell by date for some other locations is listed as March 2022.Returned.Received replacement bag Mar 20, 2022. Second bag also past Sell By Date for Texas and right at Sell by Date limit for all other listed locations.Perhaps this could explain some of the poor results of other reviewers.

More than 50% of seeds did not germinate even though I watered every evening for three weeks....Repeated applications were the same after another 3 weeks of watering nightly....
